Chapter 5 Repaying Past Debts in This Lifetime
Kai looked around and asked, "Are you okay, Miss Seraphina?"
Seraphina shook her head in response.
The vehicle continued along the winding mountain road. As Seraphina gazed at the familiar landscape, memories flooded her mind.
This place marked the beginning of her past life's disaster.
In her previous life, she had never received any affection from her family.
But in this life, she no longer desired it.
Those who owed her in the past would have to repay their debts in this lifetime.
Seraphina stood at the villa's entrance, studying the grand and beautiful mansion before her. A faint smile appeared on her lips.
Linara, I'm back again.
Jasmine Cooke, a servant of the Whitewood Family, came out after hearing the commotion and noticed the slender figure standing alone at the entryway. Her eyes flashed with sympathy.
She approached, smiling, and greeted her. "Miss Seraphina, come inside."
Taking Seraphina's luggage, Jasmine led the way inside.
In her previous life, Seraphina's first ascent of these steps had been fraught with fear, unease, hope, and joy. But now, walking them again, all she felt was contempt. The deep-seated hatred within her was like a blade piercing her heart a thousand times, making her bleed profusely.
The large living room, the sparkling marble floor, and the expensive crystal chandelier all reflected the villa's owner's immense wealth.
Jasmine addressed the noblewoman, who was arranging flowers. "Mrs. Whitewood, Miss Seraphina has arrived."
The noblewoman seemed too preoccupied with her tasks to respond.
Feeling uneasy, Jasmine turned to Seraphina and said, "Perhaps Mrs. Whitewood didn't hear me."
She moved a few steps forward and raised her voice. "Mrs. Whitewood, Miss Seraphina has arrived."
Chloe Kennedy gently placed the last rose in the arrangement, took a silk handkerchief from the table, and wiped her fingertips. Her every movement appeared elegant and deliberate.
She looked up, her gaze moving beyond Jasmine to Seraphina. When she noticed Seraphina's outfit, a small frown formed on her brow. Then, her eyes shifted to Jasmine's ragged cloth bag.
"Jasmine, where did you get that rag? Get rid of it! It's dirty and probably full of bacteria. If Linara comes into contact with it, she might have an allergic reaction."
Her voice was as soft as a spring breeze, but her remarks left Jasmine stunned and at a loss for what to do.
She gave Seraphina a troubled look, worried the young girl would feel ashamed.
Surprisingly, Seraphina remained calm.
Having endured such disgrace eight years ago, experiencing it again seemed inconsequential.
"Mrs. Whitewood, this is..." Jasmine hesitated, unsure how to explain.
As she struggled to find the right words, she was interrupted by a cold voice. "This is mine. Mrs. Whitewood, do you believe I'm also covered in bacteria from head to toe? On a medical level, my body does contain a large number of microorganisms. Similarly, you have your own set of germs."
Her tone was calm, making it difficult to discern her emotions.
The response surprised Chloe, and Jasmine turned to face Seraphina. Chloe then glanced at Seraphina with a pained expression.
Jasmine rushed forward and pleaded, "Miss Seraphina, don't be mad. Mrs. Whitewood is known for her outspoken nature. She doesn't mean any harm."
At that moment, a clear and sweet voice resonated from the stairwell.
"Has Seraphina arrived?"
A lovely lady approached them, dressed in a fluffy white princess dress and handcrafted leather shoes. She also wore stunning diamond earrings and a necklace. Her features resembled those of a beautiful porcelain doll.
