Chapter 8 You've Been Wronged

In a hospital, the depths of despair enveloped Sadie. Seated on a bench outside the hospital, she clutched her knees, her fingers tracing over scars accumulated over five years, shedding tears alone. A woman may be delicate, but for her mother, she becomes strong. Drying her tears, Sadie mustered the courage to call the Sugarmans. "It's Sadie," she spoke into the phone. The old lady of the Sugarmans, upon answering, instinctively covered her nose. It was as if the stench of Trash Peak could transmit through Sadie's voice over the call. "The Sugarmans have made it clear they want nothing to do with someone as disgraceful as you!" The old lady's stern voice ended the conversation abruptly. Sadie felt a deep sense of hopelessness. Yet, she refused to surrender. Instead, she rose to her feet, determined to confront the Sugarmans directly. Possibly, the Sugarmans stood as her last beacon of hope. Along the roadside, Sadie took her little money, impulsively bought a modest present, and hailed a cab to the Sugarman's residence. Upon entering the gate of the Sugarmans, Sadie stands firmly and begs. She shouted loudly, "Grandma, I've never begged you once for the past five years. This time, I beg you, for your granddaughter's sake, please save my child." The elderly woman's gaze was cold and unyielding, a sign of utter disinterest. "Sadie, how could you have the audacity to show your face here again? You brought disgrace upon the Sugarmans five years ago, didn't you? A woman like you deserves to be ostracised." Pain pierced Sadie's heart. Back then, all of Netherwood had branded her, the bridesmaid, as the seducer of the groom. Not once did the Sugarmans offer her their support. Sadie didn't care about her reputation. Even if everyone labelled her as shameless or a sl*t, it didn't faze her. Her sole focus was on her daughter's wellbeing. She held onto the old lady's leg, pleading from a place of humility. "Grandma, regardless of the right and wrongs of what happened five years ago, Lily now carries the Sugarmans' bloodline. Please, no matter what, I beg you to save Lily." The old lady shook off Sadie's with a push. At that moment, Tessa Sugarman, another granddaughter, returned. Despite being granddaughters, their differences were stark. Tessa, stylishly dressed and enveloped in a cloud of perfume, witnessed Sadie begging. This sight inexplicably brought her joy. "Grandma, did you hear? Today, Netherwood buzzed with two pieces of news. One thrilled the entire town, while the other disgusted it." Interest piqued, the old lady inquired, "What happened?" Tessa leaned in, cloaking her mysterious words, saying, "Grandma, the stir in Netherwood is due to the impending arrival of a prominent figure." The elderly woman exhaled. "Tessa, with the years behind me, I've encountered numerous prominent figures." Excitement surged in Tessa. This individual had a significant link to her. She clenched her lip, releasing three earth-shattering words. "Divine Phoenix Robe." The words caused the old lady to topple from her chair. Her face registered profound shock. The phrase 'Divine Phoenix Robe' reverberated in her thoughts. It represented the ultimate honour in the Mandoria. A Divine Phoenix Robe was esteemed as the garment of ancient emperors. It caused a stir across the entire medicinal world, unmatched in history. The Sugarmans, known for their medical lineage, had once worshipped the Divine Phoenix Robe, holding it in high regard. In excitement, the old lady asked, "Do you refer to the great doctor known as Zenith Crawley?" Tessa confirmed with a nod. "Indeed. The foremost individual of our time. Even the person in charge of Netherwood isn't qualified to meet him. Rumour has it that Sommers's Eternity Group is going public tomorrow; I ponder if he might show interest in the Eternity Group's prescription." "I'm really envious. To catch a glimpse of Zenith Crawley, I'd say it's worth dying for." Although aware of her lack of standing to meet Zenith, the old lady felt invigorated by the news. She then raised an eyebrow. "And the disgusting matter?" Tessa's gaze shifted back, landing on Sadie with a look of scorn. With a slight air of superiority, she remarked, "Grandma, what else could it possibly be? Remember, five years back, the unbearable Sadie, who everyone in Netherwood despised, went after Clara's groom, and now he has returned!" Hearing this, the old lady's brows furrowed. Over the last five years, the Sugarmans have remained silent. Sadie was a stain on their family's honour. Not only had she lured away a groom at a wedding, but she also bore his child. This scandal caused the Sugarmans's standing to plummet, reducing them from a reputable medical lineage to a lesser enterprise under the Eternity Group. With a crash, the old lady shattered the cup before her, exclaiming, "Sadie, leave! Never return to the Sugarmans." Sadie was engulfed in despair. What should she do now? Without the Sugarmans's support, who would save Lily? As she returned to the Sugarmans, chatter about the recent deeds of the Trebecs filled the streets and alleyways. The formidable Trebecs were bent on driving her and her daughter to ruin. It was too simple. A span of five years! They resided beneath the Trash Peak for five years, like ants under the garbage dump. After enduring for five years, she reached her limit. Noticing Sadie still standing there, Tessa vocally reprimanded, "Why do you linger? Wish to further trouble the Sugarmans?" Sadie took a moment to collect herself, preparing to rise. Then, all of a sudden—! A booming noise erupted from outside the Sugarmans' home. Someone had made their way inside. The Sugarmans family was powerless to stop them, and Logan was the quickest to respond. "Mom, someone's here!" exclaimed Tessa's dad, Logan, with a hint of worry. The old lady remained unfazed and inquired, "Who dares to stir trouble at our doorstep?" His hand shaking, Logan blamed, "It's Sadie's lover! It has to be her; she's the one who brought Marcus!" The old lady rose swiftly in distress and yelled, "Get the authorities on the line! The nerve of him showing up at the Sugarmans!" But time had already slipped away. Marcus had approached Sadie by now. After reading about those incidents in the old newspapers, Marcus couldn't calm down. Gently, he hold Sadie, whispering, "Don't be afraid, I'm right here." However, all Sadie could muster was a look of pure loathing. Nearby, Tessa's smile was anything but kind. "Marcus, the audacity to show your face! Don't be afraid? Do you think you can handle the mess your daughter stirred with the Trebecs?" Marcus paid no mind to Tessa's words. He approached the old lady, towering over her. After a moment, he finally spoke up. "Grandma, five years back, Clara set me up, and that's why I did what I did at the wedding. Clara went to great lengths to snag the prescription from me. I've returned to protect Sadie." Yet, the Sugarmans couldn't contain their amusement at Marcus's declaration. They roared with laughter. "Ha, can you believe he's blaming Clara for swindling the prescription out of him?" "Shameless Marcus! Did you forget Clara left you?" "Clara's made it big, leading the billion Eternity Group, climbing her way into wealth! Your aspirations are high, Marcus, but your tactics are low." But Marcus was unfazed by the mockery. To those of high status, the jeers of the insignificant are nothing. The opinions of the insignificant matter not. He grasped Sadie's hand, his gaze filled with earnestness. "Sadie, you've endured much injustice for five years! Starting today, you're the queen. As for Clara, I'll ensure she's reduced to nothing, paying dearly for her cold-hearted betrayal!"
