Chapter 3 : The Sky Is Falling
"Maxwell!"
Marcus's voice shattered the tranquillity, resonating like the sky was about to collapse.
Maxwell quickly knelt before Marcus. "Mr. Crawley, I'm here!"
"Clear out all this trash immediately! And inform everyone in Wintermere that I won't attend the celebration banquet! Let's see if anyone dares challenge me!" Marcus's tone was icy, his brows furrowed intensely.
Maxwell trembled, aghast at Marcus's commanding presence.
It felt as though the sky was indeed falling.
He nodded hastily. "Yes!"
Marcus's gaze turned even colder. "Also, find Sadie for me. Where is she right now?"
A child nearly lost her life while her mother was nowhere to be found.
Was this woman fit to be a mother?
It took a little while for Maxwell to gather the information.
His face drained of colour as he reported anxiously, "Mr. Crawley, I've found the information. Ms. Sadie is currently at the Haven Night Club."
While his daughter fought for her life, Sadie was at a nightclub?
"Take care of my daughter," Marcus ordered sharply before heading towards the nightclub.
The air buzzed with excitement inside the bustling Haven Night Club in Netherwood.
Outside, neon lights and the aroma of spirits filled the air.
Countless youths chased their dreams within these walls.
In a private room, Sadie sat with a large glass of wine, unable to swallow another drop.
Across from her sat a smug man.
"Mr. Devon, I apologise," Sadie began, her voice strained. "My daughter accidentally dirtied your shoes. Here's fifteen hundred dollars, hard-earned money. Please accept it as compensation. I'll drink this wine first."
Sadie endured and drank a whole glass of wine, her eyes misty and her face full of pain.
Devon Trebec, surrounded by his lackeys, sneered. "Where is the money? Did she even drink?"
His cronies chuckled, mocking Sadie's attempt to appease him.
"We didn't see her drink," one of them jeered. "Pour another glass. To drink with Mr. Devon, you need at least half a bottle."
Sadie trembled with anger, her gaze burning with resentment as she forced herself to down another glass of wine.
She didn't know her daughter had just been pushed from atop a crane.
"Mr. Devon, don't push your luck!" Sadie's voice quivered. "My daughter and I may lack status or wealth in Netherwood, but we are not to be trifled with!"
With a swift smack, Devon slapped Sadie across the face. "Understood?" His tone was cold and commanding.
Sadie recoiled, her cheek stinging. Devon retrieved his phone, turning up the volume to show a video.
In the footage, Lily was being forced to eat garbage, her mouth stuffed full by Devon himself.
Another clip showed Lily being pushed from Trash Peak.
The sight shattered Sadie's resolve.
She lunged at Devon in a fit of rage. "You monster! How could you treat my daughter like this? We have a deal! You promised if I returned your money and spent the night over drinks, you'd spare my daughter!"
Devon, revelling in his dominance, gripped Sadie's waist firmly. "Do you understand what 'spend the night' means?"
He taunted, his cronies chuckling lewdly.
Sadie struggled to break free in panic, biting Devon's hand in desperation.
He released her with a snarl, his hand marked with teeth imprints.
"You like to bite?" Devon mocked, his voice filled with malice.
"You won't escape today. Bring out Devilish!"
Devilish, a ferocious dog bred by Devon at his construction site, was summoned.
Its saliva dripped onto the floor, forming a small puddle.
"Mr. Devon, this isn't right!" one of his lackeys protested.
"If Devilish bites her, she'll die. You should be more merciful!"
Devon's sneer remained. "If she dies from a dog bite, so be it. A worthless woman like her has tested my patience enough!"
The monstrous dog lunged at Sadie, who scrambled to escape. Devon's laughter echoed as it chased her mercilessly.
With each attempt to stand, Devilish knocks Sadie down again. The crowd jeered, watching her struggle.
On the screen, footage of Lily's ordeal replayed, tears streaming down Sadie's face. Her despair was incomprehensible.
For five years, she had endured relentless persecution. Now, her daughter was dying after being pushed down from the crane. Sadie couldn't bear it any longer. She wanted to die.
As the dog's jaws loomed over her, Sadie surrendered. "Baby, Mommy's coming."
But before the world could fall silent, chaos erupted.
A figure descended like a vengeful deity before Sadie, shaking the ground with his presence.
The doors rattled, and the windows trembled as he stomped down with the force of a mountain on Devilish's neck.
Fury erupted like a volcano, overwhelming everything in its path.
The vicious dog uttered a piercing cry, collapsing under the weight of a single kick.
