Chapter 7 Mistake
Chapter 7
YRENE’S POV
We were right on the golf field which was the place they turned out to pick, out of other fun places one could possibly be in.
I sat down on the grass, with my chin, resting on both knees. Merely looking at them smiling, and having fun was a bit torturing for me as they looked handsome, and alluring.
I let out an exhausted sigh, and looked away to stop myself from being tortured. Then I thought about my mother. I really desired to see her, and see how she’s faring, especially that they said they had gotten a professional nurse for her.
I would have to check on my mother as soon as I have the chance to. I would also love to see how her treatment is being processed.
Suddenly, my phone rang, and I brought it out of my pocket. It was Francesca who was calling me. I wanted to ignore the call, but I decided not to, on a second thought.
Moreover, the triplets were having fun. It’s not bad if I also answered my best friend’s call, and probably talk about things that would occupy my mind as well.
“Hey, Francesca. What’s up?” I lightened my face up with a smile.
“Please come over, right now.” She said hurriedly, and hung up.
I was alarmed, and was baffled. What exactly was going on? Out of fear of what could be happening, I called her back, but her number was no longer reachable.
“Shit!” I cursed, under my breath.
Then I stood up immediately, and glanced at the triplets. They looked too much in fun to notice if I leave, so, I can easily leave, and hopefully I get back before they notice I was gone.
I ran as fast as I could, across the golf field, and towards the exit. As soon as I got out, I looked around for a taxi.
“Taxi, taxi.” I hailed a cab, and when it pulled up in front of me, I got in.
I gave him the address, and restlessly sat in the car, looking out at the window. Several thoughts went through my mind, and I could barely think right. What exactly could have happened?
There was no way it would be nothing for me not to worry about, because she wouldn’t have spoken in that tone.
“Can you please speed up a little?” I voiced out pleadingly to the driver.
“I can’t go over the speed limits, miss. You shouldn’t be too much in a hurry. You know, that’s why a lot of people encounter accidents, just because they are trying to hurry up on the road, and not focusing on red flags that could result to accidents.”
The cab driver looked like one who was almost getting to his fifties, and that was understandable on why he was talking so much and being really careful.
I had no choice than to be calm, and patiently wait until we got to Francesca, although, that seemed like it was going to take years.
Soon, I was dropped off at Francesca’s house, and as soon as I paid the man his money, I rushed towards the front porch and knocked on the door hastily.
“Who’s there?” I heard her mother voice out.
“It’s Yrene ma’am. Is Francesca okay?” I asked, out of concern.
The door opened, and her mom wore an apron, and she was holding a big spoon. I looked a bit baffled, and looked past her. I didn’t see any sign of Francesca being home, and I wasn’t certain if her mom knew anything about the urgent matter, so it was best not to spill.
“Uhm… Is Francesca at home” I asked calmly, trying not to get her suspicious.
“No. She actually said when you get here, you should see her at your usual spot.” She informed me with a smile.
“Oh… Alright, thanks.” I said to her, then hurried along to the café.
The café was our usual spot around this place. So, I ran as fast as I could, since it wasn’t too far from here, and when I got to the café, I sighted her, drinking chilled cola.
But her expression didn’t seem like someone who was in an urgent situation. This was very confusing for me, and the only way to find out what exactly was going on, was to ask her.
I sat down opposite her, and her face brightened up with an excited smile.
“Yrene, you’re here. It took you long enough.” She pouted, and folded her arms.
Usually, I would have laughed a little, and joked about it, but I was in no situation to do that.
“Wait, you called me. And…and you spoke like you were in trouble. That’s why I rushed over here. What exactly is going on?” I demanded, beginning to feel cranky.
“Take a chill pill, Yrene. I called you because I have missed you, and I know you may not come to see me if I asked you to, probably because you might be tired.”
“Oh, goodness! You just pushed me into trouble. How could you even think of doing that without confirming if I am in the right state for something like this!” I yelled at her, and ruffled my hair.
It was as if I had lost in two places. Francesca whom I thought had an urgent situation and had to sneak out of the triplets’ fun game, for, only called me out just to see him.
And the triplets could have noticed by now that I was no longer in their midst.
“What’s going on? Was something going on before I called?” She asked, out of concern.
I was a bit nervous, but I couldn’t get angry at her, because I knew she was only after my welfare.
“You know what, I’ll get back to you later. I have to go now.” I said to her, and rushed out of the café.
My phone beeped, and I managed to get it out of my back pocket as I continued running, and when I unlocked it, horror filled me as I saw a message from Reece.
“You dared sneak out. Well, you’ll have to pay for this. Just get yourself back here.”
Horror filled me, and my blood went cold in a rush. What mistake did I just make?
