Camilla froze on Maksim’s lap. He could feel the eyes of everyone in the room, but his wife was the only person he paid any attention. Her heart thudded so fast he felt it. But he didn’t want their first kiss to be in public, much more when he hadn’t told her the words she desperately wanted. He was certain he knew them, but when she pulled back and frowned, his confidence wavered. The music sounded like it came from far away as he tried to calm himself. Sliding a hand behind her neck, he pulled her head down and whispered against her lips so no one else could hear him, “Three words, Cam. I am sorry. I fucked up. I hurt you.”
