Chapter 5 Attack At The Castle

For the next few days after Alpha Roland’s departing ceremony, I felt shattered and empty. My life was in a mess, I didn’t know what to expect next, everything has been going wrong for the past few days. Starting from the moment I caught Roland with another woman, moving forward has been one bad news after the other. Alpha Damon too had come to add to my worries, his actions on the day of the incineration had provoked me even more. I was mourning my Ex boyfriend and he cared more about his proposal; I don’t even understand why he was there in the first place. He shared no relationship with Roland so why would he even care to attend the carrying out of his last rites. I was swallowed by the hole of depression but not long after, I started to recover. Well I could not have gotten over it if not for my mom and my maids who made sure to cheer me up at every given opportunity. On the sixth day, I woke up feeling like the usual me. Okay maybe not completely, but I was good. My day started pretty well, I had to attend vocal classes and then dance classes too. Being a princess was really not easy, you just have to move and act exactly how you are expected to, and it is just really tedious and frustrating at times. Later that night, after a very long and stressful day, I retired to my bedroom to sleep. However, I felt really uncomfortable. I couldn’t explain the feeling but it made me restless, like danger was close. I stood up from my bed and walked to the window, I looked out but everything seemed to be in place. Why was I feeling so restless, I was certain that something was not right, but what? I sighed and walked back towards my large bed. I should just put my weary head to sleep, I guess I am feeling this way due to stress that I had been through earlier today. Suddenly, there was a loud scream from the outside that got my attention and I paused, then stood up and rushed to my window where I had just come from. “Oh my god, the palace is on fire,” I said in a whisper. Our soldiers were running around, screaming but there was no sign of the attacker. I stood, staring out at the chaos below with no idea on what to do. I could hear the howls of wolves but I saw none apart from ours. It was like the howls of a thousand rogues, but were they invisible or what? I remembered that mom had told me that if a situation like this should arise, that I should escape through the back of the castle. So after waiting for a few minutes and no one came to me, I decided to flee. I ran down the stairs and headed to the backyard. There was a secret exit there that led into the woods. I made it to the small gate and ran out, but the moment I was out of the castle walls, I froze on my tracks. I could not just run away from my home without even knowing what was attacking us, my friends and family were still here, even my little brother the prince, so why should I flee like a coward? I should go back there and see for myself. I turned back immediately and ran into the castle. I went through the long hallway to my parent’s chambers but they were not there, so I ran out to the front yard and I froze at the sight before me. Almost all our warriors were laying down dead, the few alive were brutally wounded, then I looked further more and I saw my father the king, he was laying at the foot of a… monster wolf! I could not believe what I was seeing, from the monstrous look on his face, his fangs dripping with blood, his snarls shaking the whole castle. I knew exactly what he was; A Tyran wolf, how was this possible? Their entire clan had been wiped off, so how is one still alive? My dad had gotten rid of them ten years ago, so how come there is still one here? Could he be Damon? Or someone that works for him? “No! My king!!” I heard my mom scream and run towards him but just as she approached, the wolf knocked her to the wall with one heavy fist. She fell down and did not move again. That is when it dawned on me, my parents were dead, and I was certain that Alpha Damon was behind this, he had killed them. “Mom!!” I screamed loudly and broke into tears, but I only ended up bringing the beast’s attention to myself. He turned to me and snarled; his eyes bloodshot red with his scary teeth gritted, he started to take steps towards me while I stood at the spot, paralyzed with fear. “Run Monica!” I heard my mom scream with what seemed to be her last strength. The wolf turned around and went back to her; I watched the animal bite and chew her head off. I watched my own mother`s head being chewed and spit off from the beast’s mouth. The scene kept replaying in my head like it was happening all over and over again, I had never experienced something so traumatizing before. My whole life had been ruined in one night, because of one mistake. He turned towards me and that’s when I found the courage to run, I took off immediately and he came after me. I knew he would not be able to pass through the small path in the back of the castle so I went through that way. As I expected, it was too tiny for him to fit his huge self in, so he stopped and growled angrily while I kept running. I ran out of the back gate and into the woods, I was not even able to cry as fear and shock were the only emotions I could feel right now. To be continued!!
