Chapter 2 The Woman In The Cage
The first thing that caught his eyes was a huge, square iron cage.
In the confined space of the iron cage, a scrawny figure huddled in a corner came into view. Assessing the person's physique, Qin Jun surmised it to be a woman. Before her lay a broken bowl.
Outside the cage were three enormous, black dogs tied up with chains. The wolfhounds stood almost as tall as an adult human. Their mouths were covered in foam as they bared their fangs while barking.
A noise rang out from within the house, and a man approached, wielding a baseball bat in one hand and a plastic bucket in the other, heading toward three imposing wolfhounds.
“Hey! You're all getting some meat tonight!” he called out to the dogs.
The three dogs barked happily while staring at the plastic bucket. Their chains rattled loudly as they jumped up and down in excitement.
The man let out a chuckle as he casually tossed a chunk of meat onto the floor.
The three dogs immediately pounced on the meat and gnawed away at it.
The woman in the iron cage looked up and stared hungrily at the chunk of meat.
As if he had noticed her gaze, the man walked up to the iron cage and slammed it with the baseball bat as he asked, “What, you want some meat too?”
The woman curled up in fear, but nodded at him anyway.
She hadn't eaten meat in a very long time.
“You want meat, huh? No problem!”
The man then picked up a dirty bone from the dogs' bowl and tossed it into the cage.
“Hahaha! There's still a bit of meat sticking to this bone here! Go on; eat up! Wouldn't want to waste food now, would we?”
Qin Jun frowned as he observed them from a distance. He couldn't help but wonder what the woman did to be humiliated in this way.
Driven perhaps by a prolonged deprivation of meat, the woman tentatively extended her hand to grab the bone.
Suddenly, one of the dogs that was fighting for food with the other two dropped the meat in its mouth and lunged at her hand.
Startled, the woman hastily withdrew her hand into the safety of the cage. Despite her quick reflexes, the dog's sharp claws left their mark, inflicting three bleeding gashes on her arm.
The man burst out laughing when he saw the woman clutching at her injured arm in fear. “I'm surprised you have the audacity to ask for meat, you b*tch! Even if I wanted to let you have some, these dogs here don't seem to feel the same way! How about you talk to them about it, huh?” he said while reaching out to open the cage's door.
The dogs turned their heads and glared at the cage the moment they heard the noise.
“No! Don't do it!” the woman screamed in fear and panic while backing away as far as she could.
If he opens the cage, those three dogs would surely rush in and bite me all over!
All she could do was beg the man to stop.
Of course, he wasn't about to listen to her. With a smile on his face, he whipped out the keys from his pocket while the woman screamed and begged for mercy.
Unable to stand it any longer, Qin Jun yelled, “Stop!”
The man froze when he heard that. “Who are you?”
The three dogs turned around, bared their teeth, and began growling at Qin Jun.
As though struck by a bolt from the blue, the woman in the cage stared at Qin Jun in shock and disbelief.
“Young Master? You're still alive?”
