Chapter 6 Back To That Life

SCARLETT COBBS “I hope you rot in hell!” Those words resounded in my head. It didn't have the effect intended though. I mean, he wouldn't have said those words to me if he knew that my mere existence was hell. Hell was my day-to-day activities…. Hell was my life. I came back for my phone. The reason why I went back to my executive cabin was that I forgot my phone and while I was up there, I was relieved that he had left the room since I didn't want to see him again… for personal reasons. But when I saw him getting embarrassed at the deck, I couldn't help but look at him. I saw him struggle and I heard all he had to say. I was the reason he wouldn’t be getting his money despite how hard he seemed to have worked. “I should have known he was a worker when he called out rules last night.” I whispered to myself and followed his retreating frame but he was too fast. If it was money that was his problem, I had money to offer. I made him beg so I should at least make his efforts and risk worth it. This was the same reason Lucas left me. He had said he couldn't cope with me anymore and again, I have proven that being with me would do no man no good. It’s me. I am the problem. “How could he be so fast?” I asked myself just so I could get my problems off my mind. I would want to pressurize myself. That would do me no good. “Catch up with that man. The bulky one with curly hair.” I instructed the driver that had come to pick me up after I entered my car. He has been with me ever since Lucas bailed on me. This man would have been a great replacement for Lucas… in all ramifications but he was too old to satisfy my sexual needs… I was beginning to regret hiring him as my driver. “Alright, Miss Cobbs.” The drive began and we soon catch up with him– Finn. That was what he was referred to when I overheard him talking with his unyielding boss. Finn. He had a good name. I felt genuinely sorry for him when my car reached him and his worried expression guilt-tripped me. However, there was no way I was sorry about last night. No way… “Hi.” I rolled down the tinted window between Finn and I. he was shocked to hear my voice and when he turned towards me, he was more shocked to see me. He cleared his throat, “I believe I am not walking in front of your car or in the lane you need to use. Drive off, please.” Okay… he was annoying. Or annoyed. “Sounds like you hate me or something.” especially when he said I should rot in hell earlier. “But can you hop in and let’s talk?” “We have nothing to talk about, Miss.” He retorted. “We have to speed up, Miss Cobbs.” My driver announced, calling my attention to the loud horns behind us. “Will you talk to me if I exit the car? We obviously can't keep everyone waiting in traffic–” “Alright. I will hop in.” He finally agreed. I could tell he wanted to get rid of me as soon as he could. Well, fair enough. My driver stopped the car for a second and Finn hopped in, sitting beside me like a damn rock. “Make it quick. I have places to be.” Finn voiced. I was trying to understand why he was acting like he wasn't just inside me hours ago. It was understandable that he was angry about losing his money but could he be less hostile? The mindblowing sex was consensual… I didn't force him to have sex with me. Okay, maybe I was convincing enough but there was no force. “See, if this is about the sex–” “This I about losing your pay because of me, Mr. Finn. I would like to compensate you since I can see that–” “Hold up.” He interrupted, facing me. “Can you not mention–” “How did you know my name? I don’t remember telling you my name… oh. Of course. That dickhead yelled it loud enough for everyone to hear.” The last part of his statement was barely a whisper. It drew on him but he had failed to realize that I was trying to stop him from mentioning sex in the car. I haven't built trust with my current driver. He couldn't be trusted with the personal details of my life… not yet. “I have some cash here with me.” I began. “I don't know how much you were supposed to get but I will like to pay you since I did want you to run a loss because of me–” “Hold up.” He repeated those interrupting words again making me hiss. “What do you take m for?” He added. His eyes burned into mine. It was becoming hard to breathe freely with him taking up so much space in my car. “Do I look like a gigolo to you or could it be a man slut if there is anything like that?” He was furious… I had bruised his ego. Why are men so egoistic even when they clearly need help? I would never understand that mentality. MEN-tality… classic. “Can you, please hush? Man slut sounds good though.” I just couldn't help responding sarcastically. I continued speaking before he could interrupt me again with “Hold Up…” “I am not paying you for the intense hours spent together, Mr. Finn, and even if I did, Time is money, you know?” I was trying so hard to communicate with Finn at the same time confuse my driver if he was listening. “The time spent together benefited us both so I won't be paid for that regardless of your theory.” He was being difficult. I could be adamant too and he should have understood that by now. “Just accept the money and see it as compensation for what I have cost you–” “Get this straight, Miss. stop shoving your money down my throat.” His anger flashed through his eyes as if he had something against money. “I do not accept what I do not work for.” Oh.. wow. He wouldn't accept the money since he didn't work for it? I wondered if he would say no to a monetary gift that could change his life. “If you will stop the car, I have a job to get to–” “Will you accept the money if I offer you a job?” I chimed and our eyes met again, creating an unwanted spark within me. Let's get this over with so I can breathe freely without inhaling his intoxicating scent. “You can consider the money an upfront for the duties you will be performing for me.” I said I didn't want to see him again yet here I am offering him a job in my company. Well done, Scarlett Cobbs. Finn seemed to be contemplating between accepting the offer and protecting his ego. “I can tell you need the money, there is no need to be egoistic with me at the moment, Mr. Finn,” I added to make him understand that I still wouldn't let b leave until he accept the money. “Also, forgive my uncultured ways which you experienced firsthand last night. I hope we can work better together if you accept the job opportunity I am offering.” I pulled out one of my office cards from my purse and stretch it to Finn. it took him more than two minutes to reach for the card. His eyebrows furrowed when his eyes scanned the card and those alluring orbs shifted to me seconds after. “You are offering me a job in one of Cobbs Group companies?” This disbelief was loud in his voice and clear in his eyes. “Yes. visit the third address on the card and you will be directed to m once you show the card to anyone. Do visit me whenever you are ready to start working.” I answered. “Is it okay to start working tomorrow? If that’s okay, I will be there tomorrow, Miss.” He wasn't angry anymore. That was the power I had over him as the heiress of the COBBS Group. Everywhere I went, I could easily have my way just by being my father’s daughter… if only that advantage and power didn't come with so many prices. “I will be expecting you in the office tomorrow, Mr. Finn.” Finn smiled brightly. He looked even better than when he was sleeping peacefully. Perhaps I shouldn't have offered him a job. A lot could go wrong with him close to me but he could just be the perfect replacement that I needed. “I promise to be there tomorrow. Thank you, Miss.” There is no need to be formal but since I have had my way, I let Finn do things his way. I gave him the bag containing numerous dollar currency notes. He was happy. I could hear him breathing pure relief. “Should I drop you home or–” “Please drop me off here.” He insisted and my driver stopped the car by the roadside. “Thank you so much. I will see you tomorrow.” Finn added before exiting my car and just like that, we both returned to our different lives. I didn't know about his but my life was hellacious… yet I was driven back to that life.
