Denzel could not hide his joy; his happiness was spilling over onto his face. It had been a long time coming; this was the best news he had had in a long while. After much persuasion, Kate had finally decided to quit her job at the restaurant to come work for him as his maid, or friend, or lover—whatever capacity she wanted to work in was fine by him. He hadn’t been able to sleep since last night when Kate informed him that she had finally decided to come back to work, and she wanted what he had promised: a fivefold salary increase. That was nothing to Denzel; he could pay her even more if she had asked.
