Chapter 7
Workaholic
His lips stayed so close to hers for a while but did not make any contact. His grey eyes locked with her forest green eyes and then travelled down to the proximity of their lips.
Camilla's mind was racing as she waited with bated breath, wondering if he was going to kiss her or not. She wanted to pull away but at the same time, she wanted him to and she had no idea why.
For the sake of the contract! She told herself. It's just a kiss, it doesn't mean anything!
Swallowing hard, Logan pulled away after an eternity and started the car.
She let out a breath she did not realize she held on and looked out the window. The air conditioner was working fine but the car had this heat she could not explain.
"Where do you live?" He asked. Unlike her, he did not seem bothered by what had just happened.
"Ashton Road," she mumbled.
"Where on Ashton Road?"
"House 18," she mumbled.
The rest of the drive was silent until they got to where she lived. She got out of the car and waved him goodbye and was surprised to see that he walked out too. "I'll walk you to the door."
*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*
"You are one minute, forty-seven seconds late for work," Logan said to Camilla the moment she walked into the office. "I don't tolerate tardiness, have you not read the handbook yet?" He questioned.
She fought an eye roll. Logan was obsessed with bringing up the handbook. "I apologize, sir," she smiled politely. "I will make sure this never happens again."
"Get my coffee," he said dismissively.
She walked out of the office briskly and to the coffee machine. After he had dropped her off at home last night, she kept thinking of how his lips had almost brushed hers. She had been unable to sleep until it was about four a.m. in the morning and she had nearly missed her five o'clock alarm. Her face was still flaming with a blush even as she walked back into his office to drop his coffee. "Here you go, sir."
"You can leave," he told her, taking the coffee from her hands. The brief moment their fingers touched was enough to send sparks flying.
The moment she turned her back, he stopped her.
"Get me another coffee, this is disgusting."
She rolled her eyes and turned to face him. "As you wish."
"Do not drink it this time," he warned. "Pour it away."
Camilla only nodded but the moment she left the office, she chugged down the cup of coffee. She needed something to keep her awake.
"You seem to enjoy disobeying rules," Logan commented from behind her. She spat the remaining coffee in her mouth out of shock. The last thing she expected was for him to step out of his office.
Scratching her head nervously, she turned to face him with her coffee-stained blouse and mouth. "in my defense, I trashed it. In my mouth."
For a brief second, he had an amused smile on his face and shook his head. "I said, do not drink it trashing it in your mouth is the same as that."
"I apologize, sir," she said nervously. "I shall clean up the mess and get you another one."
Logan did not respond, instead, he shook his head and walked back into the office.
By the time Camilla brought a second coffee, he said. "I have lost my appetite for coffee. Pour it away."
"Yes sir."
"You haven't mailed me my schedule for today," he commented. "That was supposed to come in fifteen minutes ago."
"I was making coffee for you sir."
"That is not an excuse," he said, flipping through the pages of a document and occasionally glancing at his computer. "Why can't you just do your job right?"
"I apologize, I shall send it to you right away." She left the coffee on the table on purpose and walked out into her own office then hurriedly sent in his schedule.
Cancel my appointment meant to be held by three o'clock.
Okay. She responded to his email and then resent his schedule without the appointment.
Cancel every other appointment except the one meant to be held by eleven thirty.
Okay.
She rolled her eyes as she sent another email of his schedule.
Print the attached document and take it to Mr. Longhorn in the finance block. Ensure you deliver it yourself as it is highly confidential. Do it as quickly as possible, it is urgent.
She downloaded the document and printed it out.
What office is Mr. Longhorn?
There was no response from him even after five minutes so she decided to knock on his office door. "Excuse me, sir, you did not include directions to the office."
"I believe a map of the building was emailed to you along with your employment letter," he replied not looking up from his computer. "Find your way."
Camilla had to fight the colourful words from her mouth as she slammed his office door. She strolled out of her office and decided to ask for directions.
After a long while, she finally arrived at the office and was able to deliver it to him.
When she got back to her office, there was another email from Logan which he had sent ten minutes ago.
Go to Mrs. Hawthorne's office. She has a file for me which is confidential. I need it in fifteen minutes.
You couldn't be bothered to tell me this when you sent me to the finance block the first time? How on earth am I supposed to do that when fifteen minutes is almost up?
I pay for your services. If you had gone instead of typing this lengthy mail, you would have it by now.
"Oh to hell with you! Take your file and shove it up your ass!" She cursed out loud and then stood up so she could get to the finance block once more.
"Why don't you repeat what you just said?" Logan said from behind her.
