Chapter 59 Doris
Doris used her time to try dating again. It was hard for her to get a good man at her age. Especially when she was so used to being alone and had been so established all her life. She was too picky, but that was only because she knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to go for it no matter how much unrealistic her demands were. It was probably the reason she was still single at her age. She was too old to mess about and went straight to the point when it came to men. She wasn't afraid to make the first move or end a relationship when it was clear it wasn't going anywhere. Her take on things however, didn't seem to help her out. She found that not many men liked her fast dismissal of them and soon no one even wanted to try going out with her. After three weeks of going on dates, it soon became clear to Doris that she could never find that man that she was looking for. She was better off being alone as her friends had told her countless times before. If only she had listened, she wouldn't have spent time trying for something that was clearly not meant to be. After coming to that conclusion, Doris decided that she was going to learn to love herself more because she was all she was ever going to have. To spoil herself, a vacation was in order. Maybe after that she could come back refreshed and ready to take on the world.
Doris had always wanted to go to Hawaii so it took no time at all deciding on the best place for her vacation. She'd saved a lot of money for the trip though she had been too busy to go since she was always working but now that she had nothing better to do, she could go there and take that break she so desperately needed. After a few arrangements, Doris was on a first class flight to Hawaii. She had never been so happy to be single and with no commitments. At least that meant that she could finally be by herself at what to her was the most beautiful and peaceful place in the world. When she got to Hawaii, all Doris wanted to do was curl up in her bed and fall asleep, but not before she saw the beach. She might have been exhausted from the jet lag, but Doris had been dreaming of that beach ever since she was a little girl and there was no way she was going to let the chance pass her. She took a cab from the airport to her hotel which she'd chosen because it was closer to the beach. The prices hadn't mattered to her though they were too high in her opinion. Immediately she saw the building, Doris didn't even think of finding out where her room was, she practically ran to the beach with her luggage still in her hands. It was as beautiful as she had dreamed it would be with even more beautiful people around her. Her eyes fell on one man in particular who stood out in the crowd being a foot taller than everyone else. She'd always thought that she'd be breathless when she first lay her eyes on that beach but she was more taken with this man who'd she had never thought of or seen before. He had to be a couple of years younger than her. Squinting her eyes to see him properly, she realized he could even be much younger than her. He was a beautiful man with long dark curly hair which she imagined would feel fantastic running though her fingers. His body, a work of art, was filled with muscle though not too much that it would scare her. He suddenly turned her way and she felt herself melt under that dark intense gaze. She thought of running but couldn't bring herself to lift a foot. She watched helplessly as he walked towards her with that sly expression gracing his face. She knew even as he smiled at her that this man was bad news. "Hello there," he greeted. She grunted an unclearly response much to her disappointment. She never lost her voice in front of anyone. "Do you have a cold?" he asked though they both knew that it was no cold. He was probably used to having that effect on women. "I'm fine," she said a bit too harshly. He didn't seem to be bothered by her tone. "You seem to be lost. The hotel is that way," he said pointing to her bags. She felt her face heat up in embarrassment. She hadn't even realized that she'd dragged her bags down with her. "I know where I am," she said and turned to leave. "Doris," he called her before she could leave. She turned around abruptly a surprised expression on her face. "How do you know my name?' she asked her eyes narrowing in suspicion. "It's on your suitcase," he replied pointing at it. Her face heated up again.
