Chapter 19 Bookstore

Jackie had worked in the local library for over ten years. She is very strict when come to return the book and will not tolerate people returning book more than three days old. She gives out more than fine for late returns. Jackie is a middle-aged woman who wears old fashioned clothing the type for a Librarian long skirt tweed jack, hair in a bun. She is a hard-working lady and does not think that people should return books late as other people may want to read that book. One afternoon Jackie was at the counter checking in returned books there were about five people in the queue waiting to be served. At the back was a gentleman with three books to return he was worried because these books where long overdue and not sure was able to pay the fine. In front of him was a mother with her two kids; she was taking her time getting the books from one of the children as they did not want to give it up. Eventually, they gave the books up smiled at Jackie and told her “sorry for the inconvenience ” and walked away with her kids. Next was the gentleman with his books Jackie took the books from him checked the due date and noticed that each book was five days overdue she was not happy with that. “ these are overdue by five days there going to be a fine for each one." She was getting tired of this, so she thought of making an example of him. “ I will just price up the fine for you" she made so that he could not pay and would have taken some payment. “ how much is the fine the gentleman asked," I tell you it is going to be about £20 " "£20 that's a bit expensive for late books," she said to him that these are in quite a lot of demand. People have been asking us when they are due back." Jackie saw that he could not pay but would have to take some other type of payment.
