Chapter 14 – The History Of The Lycanthropy Dragons
~ MELONIE ~
I frantically scanned the shelves, my eyes racing over the spines of the books I had been searching for what felt like an eternity, and I was starting to lose hope.
I was searching for answers about my kind. About the creatures of the night, with skin that shifted and eyes that glowed. About the beings with the power to transform, to run with the wolves and soar with the dragons.
I was desperate to learn more about my true nature.
I pulled down book after book, scanning the pages for any mention of my kind. I read about vampires and werewolves, about shapeshifters and demons. But none of it seemed quite right.
I was getting desperate. I felt like I was running out of time, like I needed to find the answers I was looking for before it was too late.
I moved to the restricted section of the library, the part that was hidden away from prying eyes. I had heard rumours of a book that was hidden here, a book that held the secrets of my kind.
I searched the shelves, my heart pounding in my chest. And then, I saw it. A book with a cover made of black leather, adorned with strange symbols that seemed to shimmer in the light. “The history of the lycanthropic dragons”
I pulled the book down, my hands shaking with excitement. I opened the cover and began to read.
Arwan walked forward. “What are you doing?”
“Reading books, I need to know more and understand more about myself. Everything is blurry right now, I can't control my powers without understanding it.” I responded calmly.
“During the late eighteenth century, a few powerful dragons with the abilities to take on wolf-like forms, breathing fire and destruction, remained deeply hidden in a realm. Bearing children and living happily. The lycanthropic dragons were aware of their powers and remained a secret to other realms. They possess immense power, capable of lifting and moving massive objects with the ability to transform into a dragon or werewolf form”
“Is this even true?” I voiced out, filled with doubts. “Transforming into a dragon?”
Arwan pinched his nose, “Rarely…”
“A lycanthropic dragon gains incredible speed and agility, allowing them to fly, run, and dodge with ease. Their skin would be covered in thick, protective scales, providing resistance to physical damage and extreme temperatures with heightened vision, hearing and smell”
A smirk appeared on my face. “I get why they see me as a problem.”
“A lycanthropic dragon can control the elements, fire, ice, or lightning, with resistance to magical attack. During the full moon, their lycanthropic abilities would be amplified, granting them increased strength and speed. They also possess accelerated healing abilities, allowing them to recover from injuries”
“Hold up! So we aren't werewolves?” I voiced out, gawking at Arwan.
He turned his head, “No! We are lycanthropic dragons that take on Wolf-like form.”
“Ohh… I understand better now, how about the Apex predators?” I interrogated curiously.
He paused for a while, “They also take on Wolf-like form,” he explained, “But they are more powerful than werewolves.”
“Does a real werewolf exist?” I reasoned out.
He looked at me with a “What exactly do you want to know?” face, and I calmly paused my lips.
“Definitely, they exist in their realm, they are the peaceful type.”
“Are they a threat to us?” I added innocently.
“Not really, we are more powerful than they are, but maybe not their Alpha, it will take a while to defeat an Alpha. Keep reading, Melonie,” he growled and I threw my hands up in surrender.
“In the late 1700s, A lycanthropic dragon mated with an Apex predator, another powerful being from a different realm, revealing the fact that lycanthropic dragons exist. The entire universe was in an outburst and alarmed by this taboo. That child became the world's biggest threat, wildly wanting to be eliminated by all. A forbidden seed, a fear and a nightmare to many. That child became the most powerful being in the universe”
“I have a very bad feeling that this child is me,” I rasped.
Arwan looked away, hiding his emotionless face, “Very correct, keep reading.”
“In the year 1770, a war broke out between the lycanthropic dragons against the real werewolves, dark walkers, shadow creatures, and Apex predators. All with one aim, eradicating the forbidden seed”
“Wow, a lot of people want me dead,” I voiced out in sadness.
“Just keep reading, Melonie,” Arwan scolded.
“To keep the child safe, an ancient lycanthropic dragon kept the child frozen for a thousand years, long enough to be forgotten by the deadly threats lurking around the child's shoulders, and then transferred her to the mundane world to be well-trained and secured. But it definitely would be until that child turns eighteen”
“Whoever wrote this seemed to have seen the future,” I lamented, “But whoops! The forbidden seed is back and remembered by monsters, to live a life-threatening life, forever and ever…”
Arwan looked at me with a confused face, “This is not a joke, Melonie,” he voiced out. “You just found out how big of a threat you are to a lot of things out there.”
“If I don't laugh, I'll cry,” I snapped back, “Hold up — the ancient lycanthropic dragon that protected me was your mother, Late Mrs. Hunter… right?”
His eyes turned soft, “No! I was that ancient lycanthropic dragon."
