Chapter 6 – My Cute Enemy
~ MELONIE ~
I grabbed Clara by the hand, “Let's go in,” I stated, and she smiled at me warmly.
Arlo also came forward, “Where are you going?” He asked curiously.
“Where else, dummy? Should I remain out here? I was told this whole building was mine. And please, stop monitoring me already, it's not like I can leave this place,” I retorted, rolling my eyes.
“Hey!” Arwan called, and I froze. “We begin training tomorrow morning, get ready,” he announced firmly.
“Don't tell me what to do, you heartless kidnapper,” I growled and walked away, dragging Clara along.
We got in and I picked my room, Clara also picked hers, and so did Arlo and Arwan.
Arwan's room was opposite mine, Clara's was beside, and Arlo's was opposite Clara's.
“Oh my God! I've never had a room since I was born here,” Clara swooned delightfully.
I looked at my well-prepared room; I was satisfied with it, but I still wasn't satisfied with the new, strange world.
We went down for dinner, and after dinner, I stormed straight to my room.
“You are going to bed now?” Clara asked from behind.
“Yes, I still haven't wrapped my head around things and the new changes in my life,” I replied truthfully.
“You should hurry up, you don't really have a lot of time, you have a lot of enemies when they sniff you down here, your life would be tragic,” Arlo announced cruelly.
“Can you all please stop singing in my ears that I won't have peace? You think it's fun, huh? Do you find it funny?” I yelled with a serious face.
“It's part of accepting who you are, Melonie,” Arlo yelled back dramatically.
“Right! That I shouldn't have been born? That I am a nightmare, a forbidden seed? That my fate is full of pain, trauma and heartbreak? That I would never be happy because I keep getting hunted down like a grasshopper? That a lot of beings out there either want me dead or want to use me as a weapon? How sweet a life that is!” I screamed, sarcasm dripping.
“That's why you need to be strong, you need to accept it and train yourself so you can protect yourself. Melonie if you discover who you truly are, nobody can hurt you,” Clara added thoughtfully.
“Training starts tomorrow,” Arwan mumbled out of the blue.
“Can you please just shut up with your training shit? You are the cause of everything; you brought me here,” I snapped at him rudely, and he just ignored me, focusing on his meal.
“I did what I was told to do, you were in danger,” he calmly defended.
“Then let me. It's my death, not yours… Fuck you Arwan!” I snarled.
“Don't talk to him like that, Melonie, he did nothing wrong,” Arlo protested, jumping into the discussion.
I sent him a bombastic side eye, “Shut up, you too! You never told me anything, even if you knew everything,” I attacked.
“We can't let you fall into the wrong person's hands,” Clara softly explained.
“And how am I sure you all are not the wrong people?” I retorted, gawking at her.
“Just trust us,” Arlo rasped, pausing his lips.
“Oops! I have trust issues,” I snapped back.
“Melonie…” Arlo menacingly muttered.
I threw my hands up in the air, “Please leave me alone. You can't expect me to accept all these sour desserts all at once, I didn't choose this life. All I wanted was to live a normal life but now, my life is fucked up. Because I'm one Melonie Aeron, a forbidden seed and a nightmare to realms.” I snapped back and flooded into my room.
“I'll talk to her,” Clara stated and trailed behind me while Arwan simply focused on his meal like he didn't give a fuck.
“Melonie, who you are is a blessing,” Clara stated, trailing behind me.
“No Clara. Who I am, is a curse! I am a curse and you know it, deep down, you are scared of me just like everyone else. You are scared that I would hurt you,” I announced firmly.
“You are wrong. I am anxious, Anxious that there are a lot of threats around us right now and more to come if they realize where you are. If you keep acting childish, you will get us all killed. Put this into consideration and stop being selfish, the fate of thousands of people in this realm is dancing in your palms… don't quash it. We are all here to help you, put your trust issues aside and let us help you grow,” she responded truthfully.
I stared at her reluctantly and then muttered, “I'm sorry, I-I can't!” I responded calmly and walked into my room, locking the door behind me.
I walked to my bed to sit, brushing my hair back with the tip of my fingers in frustration.
Suddenly, the door shook violently as a loud, thunderous kick crashed against it. The sound was like a crack of lightning, sudden and intense, and it seemed to reverberate through every cell of my body.
I watched in horror as the door creaked and groaned, the lock straining against the force of the kick. For a moment, it seemed like the door would hold, but then, with a sickening crunch, the lock gave way, and the door burst open, splintering and cracking as it swung wildly on its hinges.
Arwan stood in the entrance, his eyes blazing with a fierce intensity. He was a towering figure, his presence seeming to fill the entire room, and I felt a shiver run down my spine as he took a step forward, gawking at me fearlessly.
The air was thick with tension, and I could feel the weight of his gaze upon me. I tried to speak, to ask him what he wanted, but my voice caught in my throat, and all that came out was a faint whisper. “Do you realize that I can burn you right now?”
He took another step forward, his eyes never leaving mine, and I felt a sense of dread wash over me.
“Do you know that I could kill you right now?” He retorted rudely.
I was lost in the moment, my eyes locked on his, as he moved closer to me. The noise of the crowded room faded into the background, and all I could focus on was the intense gaze of the handsome man in front of me.
Suddenly, without warning, he reached out and pulled me close, his arms wrapping around me like a vice, his warm breath on my skin, sending shivers down my spine.
For a moment, we just stood there, frozen in time, as the world around us melted away. I felt like I was drowning in the depths of his eyes, unable to look away or break free from his grasp.
Then, without a word, Arwan leaned in closer, “I know you think you are powerful and everyone should be scared of you, but I could kill you without glitching or rethinking. I am ancient, the only surviving oldest in this realm after my mother, and you are just an eighteen-year-old hybrid yet to discover her powers. Remember that! I'm yet to uncover someone who can win against me, and it's definitely not you. If you yell at me again, I'll teach you a lesson hard to forget. From now on, you will listen to me. Do you understand?” His thick, manly voice echoed out.
“I must have been swallowed by all the problems in my life, because why am I just noticing that his cuteness is life-threatening?”
