Chapter 10 Slapping Mrs Montrose
Arthur was both angry and annoyed. Thoughts came flooding out, and he roared them all out.
"I know you got married, but what kind of man do you think you married? That man refused to get married because he's impotent! I can't believe you could only marry someone like that after leaving me. You're so pathetic!"
I narrowed my eyes. "What did you say?"
Arthur said, "My mom saw it. You were with that old man."
So it was his mother, Vivienne, who told him. I guess Vivienne must be driven mad by me.
I narrowed my eyes, turned around, and said, "How my husband is has nothing to do with a scumbag like you. I don't know if he's 'up to it' or not, but you might not be 'up to it' very soon."
With that, I kicked hard at Arthur's groin. After hearing a howl of pain, I turned around and walked out nonchalantly.
As I walked, I couldn't help thinking about what Arthur said.
Arthur said the man I married was impotent...
Edward is Arthur's uncle. He shouldn't be lying casually, right?
Then I remembered that when Alexander heard the news of Edward's marriage, he said 'impossible' twice in a row. Alexander is a doctor. He must know about Edward's physical condition, so that's why he couldn't believe Edward got married!
All of a sudden, I felt like I'd discovered some incredible truth, and I quickly covered my wide - open mouth with my hand.
Just as I turned around, my expression suddenly froze on my face.
Edward was standing there, arms folded across his chest, leaning lazily against the glass door beside him. I had no idea how long he'd been watching.
Edward had a faint smile on his lips, and his long and narrow eyes behind the wire - rimmed glasses were slightly narrowed. Our gazes met in the air.
Suddenly, I felt a lump in my throat and started to panic a little.
Why was Edward here? Wait, how much had he heard?
I swallowed hard and walked up quickly. "Mr. Ashford, when did you arrive?"
"Just now." Edward glanced at me and said casually.
Just now? Thank goodness. He probably didn't see much then.
"I've been enjoying the show since Miss Lancaster started kicking Arthur." Edward leisurely added the words he'd left unsaid.
The breath I'd just let out got stuck in my throat again!
He'd seen me kicking someone. How could he call this 'just now'?
Edward seemed to enjoy seeing me all riled up. He curved his lips into a soft laugh, and he looked incredibly handsome when he did that. I was completely mesmerized.
He stepped forward, leaned in slightly, his eyes narrowing. "I just saw Arthur holding your hand, Miss Lancaster. What were you talking about with him?"
His sudden closeness threw me off-balance.
The man's scorching breath enveloped me, and his Adam's apple bobbed slightly as he spoke.
Only then did I notice a tiny mole on Edward's Adam's apple, adding an indescribable allure to him.
What a pity... Such a man was impotent. It was such a waste.
I sighed inwardly. What was I supposed to say to Edward? I couldn't just tell him that his nephew said he was impotent, could I?
But if I said nothing, I'd still be fuming.
I rolled my eyes and suddenly gave a light laugh. "It's nothing. Arthur is just an unethical person. He came up and spouted a load of nonsense, even trying to drive a wedge between our marriage."
After saying that, my eyes couldn't help but glance down at the man's crotch, then I quickly looked away as if I'd been burned.
Good heavens, was this the "pink elephant you mustn't think about"?
Edward caught this little detail and his eyes suddenly narrowed.
Trying to drive a wedge between their marriage? Hmph.
I shuddered all over. Oh no! I had a feeling Edward knew what I was thinking.
I wished I could see my eyes shut. Why did I have to look at that part of him? It was like rubbing salt in his wound. After all, for a man as high-and-mighty as Edward to have such an affliction, he must feel awful about it.
I instinctively tried to make amends and shifted the blame back onto Arthur.
"Arthur insisted that I apologize to Vivian. Mr. Ashford, is there any sense in that? I was so angry that I couldn't help but kick him."
"Miss Lancaster sounds so aggrieved..." Edward chuckled softly. "Are you hoping I'll avenge you?"
I nodded immediately, then, feeling I was being too unreserved, I lowered my head.
"I just think someone like Arthur needs to be taught a lesson."
After all, as Arthur's uncle, Mr. Ashford was well within his rights to teach him a lesson, right?
Edward nodded gently, his tone meaningful. "Alright, I'll teach him a lesson."
I saw the assistant beside Edward wearing a difficult expression.
Half an hour later, the car arrived at Ravensworth Manor.
Edward got out of the car and paused. Nicholas followed right behind him.
Nicholas clearly saw that all of Edward's gentle facade had disappeared. His gaze was sharp, and though the corners of his lips were curved, his words were terrifying.
"Even that insignificant Arthur dares to spread rumors about me. Teach him that loose lips sink ships."
Edward said casually, "Go and chop it off."
Nicholas didn't dare to ask exactly what part of Arthur he intended to chop off. He could only reply in a low voice, "Yes, sir."
Seeing this scene, it seemed they still had something to say. I walked past them and entered the villa alone.
As soon as I entered, I suddenly heard a sarcastic voice.
"Mrs. Montrose, our old lady only acknowledges Miss Montrose as her granddaughter-in-law. Don't worry, I'll definitely drive that woman away today. The old lady said that anyone she doesn't recognize will never become Mrs. Ashford."
Then, another haughty female voice sounded, "Daring to snatch the husband from my daughter. She really deserves to be taught a lesson. My daughter and Edward grew up together. They two are the most well-matched."
Hearing this, I understood. The woman who was dragged away in a frenzy when Edward and I got married in a hurry that day was probably Miss Montrose.
Tsk... This impotent man is quite popular!
The male servant turned around and happened to see me at the door. His eyes were full of contempt.
"So Miss Lancaster is back. Well, I won't beat around the bush. The old lady orders you to divorce the young master today. Miss Lancaster, you'd better get prepared."
I raised an eyebrow.
When Mrs. Montrose saw that I didn't agree. She was immediately filled with anger and said in disgust.
"I think you'd better divorce him voluntarily! Otherwise, when Edward dumps you, how embarrassing would that be? I'm ashamed for you!"
I couldn't help but laugh. What was wrong with these two, trying to decide things for me?
"Ashamed? That's a wrong statement. If divorcing Edward is considered shameful, then what about Miss Montrose?"
After all, the prerequisite for divorce is getting married. And that Miss Montrose was eagerly trying to marry Edward but failed. So who should really be ashamed?
"You... You're really a motherless bitch!"
Mrs. Montrose was evidently provoked by these words. Without thinking, she swung a slap towards my face!
"How dare you be so shameless! My daughter is a hundred times nobler than you. You and your short-lived mother both deserve to die. You go and... Aah!"
My eyes turned cold. Seeing her slap coming, I quickly sidestepped and then unceremoniously slapped her back!
With a 'slap', there was a deathly silence all around.
Mrs. Montrose stood there, stunned for two seconds, and then flew into an even greater rage. "You hit me? You really are a motherless slut! You stole my daughter's husband, and you even dared to hit me!"
My tone was icy. "You're so old, but you still can't speak properly. Not only did I hit you, but I'm also going to make you leave this place! Nicholas!"
Nicholas immediately bowed respectfully. "Mrs. Montrose, please."
Mrs. Montrose stared wide-eyed, going crazy. "My daughter is the future wife of Edward. You bitch have no right to kick me out!"
I curled my lips nonchalantly. "Future wife? Unfortunately, I'm his current wife. Do you think I have the right?"
Mrs. Montrose shrieked and raised her palm.
"Eleanor! You wait. You'll regret this! I'm telling you, Edward can only marry my daughter—"
Before she could finish, a 'creak' of the door opening came from not far away.
The next moment, a cold male voice sounded behind them.
"Mrs. Montrose, since when could you meddle in my marriage?"
