The wind screamed through the devastated valley, blowing dust and ash into the air. The fight was over for the time being, but Ash recognized that the war wasn't near completion. The bounty hunters were scattered, their forms twisted into grotesque poses by the wolves they had previously owned, now emancipated. The erstwhile cacophony of battle had lessened to stillness, but it was an ominous stillness, a lull before the tempest.
Seraphine's breathing was unsteady, though bruised and battered. It was in her mind, though, that the true battle raged on. Velastra's words echoed in her head, a murmur at the back of her skull that she couldn't silence.
