Chapter 12 Emptying a Million-Dollar Warehouse
Kenneth had the deliveryman bring the 100 giant water barrels directly to his house. Once they were all in place, he turned on every faucet in the house and began filling them with water. At this rate, it would take about a week to fill all 100 barrels completely.
Day by day, Kenneth kept himself busy. He spent every penny he had without hesitation, making sure nothing went to waste. For meals, he dined only at the finest restaurants. At the same time, he bought large amounts of food from these top-tier establishments, storing them in his spatial pocket for future use.
Every day, he practiced archery and shooting at Valkyrean’s shooting range, determined to sharpen his skills. While a month wasn’t enough time to become a martial arts expert, with his bow, firearms, and a fully reinforced safe house, Kenneth felt prepared for any danger that might come his way.
Naturally, such behavior didn’t go unnoticed. Everyone around him treated him like a joke, laughing behind his back and speculating that he had lost his mind.
Even Grace deliberately distanced herself from him, refusing to engage in any conversation.
Days passed, and soon it was just over 20 days until the apocalypse. By then, Kenneth had stockpiled an enormous amount of supplies, including food, weapons, and heating equipment. However, he still didn’t feel secure enough.
He decided it was time to target Walmart’s massive warehouse. With its contents, he could acquire enough resources to last him a lifetime.
Kenneth returned to work at the warehouse as usual. Walmart’s warehouse operated 24/7, but at night, only ten staff members were on duty.
Kenneth opted for a straightforward method, which was adding sleeping pills to the tea his coworkers drank.
With the apocalypse only a week away, he wasn’t worried about being caught. His familiarity with his coworkers made the task effortless.
Once the pills took effect, and his coworkers fell into a deep sleep, Kenneth made his way to the surveillance room and shut down all the warehouse cameras.
With everything in place, Kenneth entered the warehouse. Taking a deep breath as he stood before the massive space, Kenneth began collecting supplies.
With a mere glance at the shelves and a thought, entire racks of goods disappeared into his spatial pocket.
He started with the beverage section, which held tens of thousands of tons of bottled water, drinks, and alcohol, including high-end wines and spirits. Kenneth didn’t bother sorting—he stored it all in one go.
Within minutes, the thousands of cubic meters of drinks vanished completely. Next, he moved to the fuel and household supplies section.
Here, Kenneth found smokeless coal, barrels of gasoline, and alcohol-based fuel—items meant for household storage or outdoor activities. There were tens of thousands of boxes of smokeless coal alone, not to mention the other fuels. The sheer quantity was more than Kenneth could use in a hundred years.
He stored them all without hesitation, meticulously organizing them in his spatial pocket for easy access later.
The third stop was the food section, which was even larger, holding tens of thousands of tons of supplies. Canned food, roasted chickens, ducks, snacks, instant noodles, and high-end treats—all of it went into his pocket, indiscriminately.
After clearing the food section, Kenneth moved to the sports equipment area.
Exercise equipment was essential for his safe house, and while space in the safe house was limited, the infinite capacity of his spatial pocket meant he could take whatever he wanted.
He also stumbled upon some unexpected treasures, which were baseball bats and fencing gear, which could serve as excellent weapons.
Among the finds, he discovered specialized skiing and mountaineering equipment, including professional-grade cold-resistant suits used by national athletes. These suits could withstand temperatures as low as minus 212°F—perfect for the upcoming Ice Age.
Kenneth’s eyes lit up. These top-tier cold-resistant suits were invaluable for surviving the frigid apocalypse. Without hesitation, he stored dozens of these suits and sleeping bags.
After two hours, Kenneth had emptied the entire 200-acre Walmart warehouse by himself.
Standing in the now-vacant warehouse, Kenneth felt a deep sense of satisfaction. No matter how harsh the Ice Age became, he was confident he could live comfortably.
Returning to his post, Kenneth even drank a cup of tea laced with sleeping pills and pretended to fall asleep at his desk.
He was awoken by frantic shaking sometime later.
“Mr. Hale, something terrible has happened! Wake up!”
Kenneth slowly opened his eyes, feigning confusion as he looked at his coworkers. “What’s going on?”
One of them, trembling, pointed toward the warehouse. “It’s unbelievable! The warehouse has been emptied!”
“What?” Kenneth exclaimed, slamming the desk as he stood up, acting shocked.
He rushed to the warehouse with them, only to find the enormous space completely empty.
Though he knew exactly what had happened, Kenneth’s legs buckled as he stammered, “How could this happen? Where did all the supplies go?”
The employees around him looked equally tense.
“This warehouse held goods worth at least a million dollars! Even with trucks, it would take days to clear it all out. How could everything disappear in the blink of an eye?”
None of them mentioned falling asleep earlier, as taking naps during night shifts was a common unspoken rule.
Kenneth paced back and forth with a grim expression before saying, “This is too strange. We can’t solve this ourselves. We need to report it to upper management!”
The others nodded in agreement. With such an enormous loss, they felt no personal accountability—this was clearly beyond their pay grade.
Kenneth immediately called the warehouse manager to report the incident.
The manager was so shocked by the news that he initially thought Kenneth was joking.
