Chapter 9 A Secret Held
"Mom, what is Amanda doing? She's with Matthew now, yet she still clings to the Sovania family's jade pendant!" Violet complained bitterly as Grace held her back.
Grace reassured her, "Violet, you said it yourself—she's with Matthew now. What right does she have to marry into the Sovania family?"
"But what if she refuses to hand over the pendant? Elon only recognizes the pendant," Violet argued.
It was the pendant that had caused headaches for the Sullivan family and Wilson's parents. According to Elon, whoever possessed the pendant was to be the Sovania family's granddaughter-in-law.
"Violet, there's no rush at this moment," Grace whispered softly, glancing at the empty staircase and smirking, "Let them have a good gathering today."
After Grace spoke, Violet suddenly remembered something—they had Rachel as a pawn.
It was because of Rachel that Amanda obediently married Matthew and allowed herself to be bullied by them.
On the top floor of the Sullivan family home, a secret was hidden. Amanda hurried along the dimly lit corridor, which was usually deserted and declared off-limits by William without his permission.
No outsider knew that someone else lived on the top floor of the Sullivan family home.
"Rachel," Amanda approached an unlocked iron door, straightened her clothes, and put on a joyful smile before pushing the door open.
A woman with her hair draped over her shoulders sat on the bed, gazing out the window.
Hearing Amanda's voice, the woman turned around, and upon seeing Amanda, a frail yet beautiful smile spread across her face.
Amanda entered, climbed onto the bed, and nestled into the woman's embrace.
"Rachel, I've missed you."
In Rachel's arms, Amanda felt an inexplicable sting in her eyes—this was where she felt happiest.
She dared not let her tears fall, quickly wiping them away and raising a cheerful smile before looking up at Rachel, who gazed back affectionately.
"Rachel, let me comb your hair."
Rachel did not respond, so Amanda picked up a brush and began combing. She didn't know when she could take Rachel away from here, free from William's threats.
Marrying Matthew, breaking off the engagement, handing over the pendant—Amanda did not know what else William would threaten her with using Rachel.
She had nothing left, but no matter how hard, she couldn't just abandon Rachel.
Amanda stayed at the Sullivan family home for lunch to accompany Rachel. Around five o'clock, she thought about the street racing that night and planned to head to the venue early to prepare.
The race was at midnight, akin to an underground fighting ring where only winning or losing mattered, not life or death. Accidents were just bad luck, but the prize money was so substantial that Amanda was determined to win first place.
She had secretly participated in these races two years ago, and through countless life-or-death situations, her skills had sharpened, and her courage grew. Although she needed the money, she valued her life above all.
Without my life, who would look after Rachel?
"Amanda!"
At the starting point of the race, Cindy drove up to Amanda, "Careful with Henry's new car!"
