The way Evan addressed her sent shivers down Serena's spine. Just this morning, she was the formal "Ms. Wren" to him, and now, suddenly, it was "Serena"? The speed at which Evan had shed the formality was remarkable, to say the least. What on earth had happened to make his tone change so abruptly and so weirdly? "I was just at the police station," Evan said casually, watching her closely. "The officers asked me who I saw on the side of the road around 4 AM." He knew his sudden shift in tone was a bit shocking, but he was certain what he was about to say next would surprise her even more. Evan's eyes locked on Serena, studying every little flicker of emotion on her face. However, Serena didn't react the way he had anticipated. Her only response was a slight twitch of her brow. Seeing that she remained silent, lips pressed together, Evan's smile deepened. "Serena, should I go back to the police and tell them the person I saw on the roadside at 4 AM was you?" It was clear this whole thing revolved around her. He didn't believe she could remain indifferent. "Go ahead. What do you want?" Serena sighed inwardly, already knowing Evan was in trouble. The moment she ran into him, she knew things would get more complicated. Now her goal was to cut this issue off at the root before it got out of hand. Serena's tone was calm as if she were talking about the weather, completely unbothered by the shocking nature of her words. What she said wasn't the exact truth, but the end result was close enough. She knew this was the quickest way to shut down Evan's questions. She also knew Evan's personality well. If he didn't get answers, he wouldn't stop digging. The more she hid, the more curious he would become, and that would only make things worse. Besides, judging by what happened this morning, Evan had already guessed most of it.
