Chapter 10

••• Charlotte’s POV ••• The moment I sat in my car, my body began trembling, and my tears started to fall again. I was prepared for the pain of untying the matebond, but it turned out to be more than agonizing than I had thought. What was worse, when I met Hayden’s eyes, I felt there were no more ties between us. And no matter how much I tried to tell myself that I didn't love him anymore, the feeling of not being mated to him was still heartbreaking. I stayed in my car, not bothering to start it yet, and let myself cry and get over the heartbreak. Lexi was still whimpering, and I knew she was broken because of it. “Lexi..” I called her name gently, but she didn't reply, and I didn't want to bother her again. She needed time to get over it, just like I did. I cried until there were no more tears left in me, and my heart became cold. Hayden was no more my mate, and I didn't love him anymore, I said to myself, and this time, I felt it to be true. I started the car and drove to the Silent Prowlers Pack to meet Olivia. “Charlotte!” She jumped into my arms the moment I arrived at their pack and saw her. “Are you okay?” she asked with concern. I grinned at her. “I’m better than okay. I’ve severed my matebond with Hayden and no longer need to stay at the Red Claw Pack!” She looked at me suspiciously. She knew how painful it was to break the matebond, and I could see that she was doubting that I was really alright. I laughed and rubbed her head. “It was painful, but I got over it and now feel relieved.” She scrutinized me, and when she saw I was really okay, she heaved out a sigh of relief. “That’s great! So now you are going to go back to the Moon Crest Pack and become their Alpha, right?” she asked with excitement. I nodded. “Yup, but before that, I still need to return to the Red Claw Pack.” I saw her face fall. “Why? Are you still not over Hayden even though you are not mates anymore?” I laughed again and flicked her forehead. “What’s in this head of yours? I won't ever fall in love with someone who is not my mate, especially not with a bastard like Hayden.” “Then why are you going back there?” she complained. It was apparent she didn't want me to have any contact with Hayden and his pack. My lips curled up into a wicked smile. “Remember the gift I told you I’d prepared for them?” Her eyes lit up, took my arm, and shook it, acting like a spoiled child. “Tell me about the gift! I’m your best friend; you should at least give me a hint about it.” I leaned over and whispered some words in her ears. Her eyes widened after hearing about my gift, and she exclaimed gleefully, “Oh, My Goddess, I can't believe that’s your gift! I wonder how they will react when you hand them the gift!” “Well... I gotta go there and give it to them first for us to see their reactions, don't I?” I winked at her. “Okay. Do you need me to go with you?” she asked as she practically jumped with excitement. “Nope. Lemme do it myself.” I grinned at her. “See you later, okay?” “Char, you are the best! Hayden will surely regret believing that bitch Sofia!” she laughed. “I hope so,” I winked at her again, got into my car, and drove straight to the Red Claw Pack. When I arrived, I saw Noah, Hayden’s Beta. He looked at me with disgust and mocked, “Why are you still here? You must regret untying the mate bond and divorcing Hayden, right? Are you here to beg him? Let me tell you, he won't take someone as vicious as you back, and the Red Claw Pack will never want you as their Luna!” His words amused me, and I couldn't help myself from laughing out loud. “Are all the members of the Red Claw Pack stupid?” His face darkened, and he was about to retort, but I silenced him. “Don't worry; I’m not here to beg Hayden. He doesn't deserve me,” I said smugly and handed him a pen before he could say anything. He looked at the pen, and a suspicious expression appeared on his face. “I’m leaving this pack forever, but before that, I have to give this gift to Hayden and you guys. Press it later,” I pointed to a small circular button. “You guys asked me to be responsible for pushing Sofia off the cliff, right? That’s a recording of my explanation.” I flipped my hair over my shoulder arrogantly and turned to leave without waiting for him to answer. When Sofia asked me to meet her at the cliff, I knew she was scheming something, and I was prepared for it. I bought a recording pen and recorded our conversation. Fortunately, the pen was waterproof and water resistant, and it wasn't destroyed when we fell into the water. I smirked as I drove back to the Moon Crest Pack. I couldn't wait to see Hayden’s and the Red Claw Pack’s members’ reactions when they knew that everything was directed by Sofia. ______________________ ••• Sofia’s POV ••• “Sofia, Charlotte has broken her matebond with Hayden and left the Red Claw Pack forever. I heard she won't be coming back anymore!” A she-wolf, who was close to me, said. My heart started pounding due to happiness. “Are you sure?” “I’m positive. I heard they went through the process of breaking the bond during moon rose,” the she-wolf said with confidence. My heart was brimming with joy. It seemed like my plan to frame Charlotte had succeeded perfectly, and I had even gotten rid of the child, which was a burden for me. Now, the next obstacle was to be Hayden’s chosen mate. I had to seduce Hayden and become the true Luna of the Red Claw Pack again! With happiness filling my heart, I walked confidently to the pack’s doctor for my next check-up. It would be best if I could have a baby with Hayden. The doctor did the usual check-up, and I waited for the result. When the doctor returned with my result, his face didn't look too good, and somehow I had an ominous feeling in my heart. “Doctor, what’s wrong?” I asked, and my voice was trembling without me noticing it. “Sofia...” the doctor seemed hesitant and reluctant to say whatever it was he needed to say, and my heart which was pounding from happiness before was now throbbing with fear. “Doctor, please just tell me,” I begged him. “Sofia... This... The miscarriage you had before..” he stopped and looked at me with sympathy. “What about it? Tell me! What about it?” I started to become anxious, and my voice rose a notch. “Your miscarriage resulted in you no longer having the chance of possible future pregnancy.” The doctor’s words were like a knife stabbing my heart. “No, no, it can't be possible!” I shook my head frantically. “You are lying! There must be something wrong with the result! It can't be right! I still need to get pregnant with Hayden's baby!” I was hysterical and didn't care if the things I was saying at the moment. “Sofia... The result is clear. I’m sorry,” the doctor apologized and looked at me with pity. “YOU ARE LYING!” I shouted hysterically. It couldn't be happening. I got rid of the child so I could have a baby with Hayden. The doctor must be lying! “I don't believe you! Check it again! I can't be infertile! CHECK IT AGAIN!” I kept shouting hysterically at the doctor. I tugged my hair and kept shaking my head. I didn't care about my image right now. All I cared about was to have a baby with Hayden, and this couldn't be happening. I was supposed to have my happy ending with Hayden. THIS CANT BE HAPPENING! I shouted in my mind. I grabbed the doctor’s shoulders and shook his body. “CHECK IT AGAIN! CHECK IT AGAIN!” “Sofia...” The doctor was about to say something but was disturbed by the abrupt opening of the door. We both looked at the person who had entered and saw Hayden looking at me with a grim face.
