The woman lay perfectly still and unmoving for what seemed like an eternity. It dawned on Landon that something wasn't right. He placed a hand on her chest and gently shook her, hoping to wake her up. But she remained still, eyes closed. Landon shook her more forcefully this time, but she did not stir. Suddenly, a soft clinking noise caught his attention. Landon looked down and saw a small pocket knife, almost the size of his middle finger, lying on the bed. The blade was stained with fresh blood. A sense of unease washed over him, and with a single swift motion, he pulled back the blanket that covered her. To his horror, he saw that the bed was stained with blood. A sharp cut had been carved into her throat, still dripping with fresh blood.
