Chapter 7 He's The Devil

ALLY My skin was purple and it started to bruise. It was swollen and I couldn't even touch it. After I came back to the room, I hopped into the shower to let the cold water wash the pain away. It didn't. I couldn't get some ice from the kitchen. Maybe because I didn't ask. But I didn't want Dimitri coming back and catching me there. That would put me and that maid who gave me, in trouble. I sat there in the tub, thinking about my life. His words resonated in my head. “I hate you!” “You are ugly!" “You will regret marrying me!” Was this really how I wanted to live the rest of my life? It had just been a day and I already had a bruise. I had the rest of my life to go. What if I ran away? I doubted I would be able to get out of this house because of the amount of guards I'd seen when I was coming in. That would just be a failed mission and it'll get me into trouble by the time they report me to him. I must have sat in that tub for hours because by the time I came out, it was already dark out and my heart was beating fast in my chest. What if he came back when I was in the shower? I hadn't put away his clothes that were on the bed. I quickly ran around, putting away the things that were out of place while trying to manage my hip. It hurt a little less and I knew it would take at least a week to heal with no ice or treatment whatsoever. By the time I was done, I was sweating and my blood was racing. Even after doing everything, I still couldn't sit still, thinking that there was something I hadn't done. I didn't want him to come home and be angry because I was going to be the one to suffer for it. I kept checking the time and it wasn't until nine pm that I finally took a seat on the wet couch that I had slept on last night. It was going to take forever for that couch to dry and I had no other choice but to sleep on it except I decided to sleep on the floor which I'm sure he would like. Food came ten minutes later and the anxiety I was feeling almost didn't let me eat but when I thought about what happened the last time and how hungry I would be in the morning, I had to force myself to eat. When he didn't come back at midnight, I decided to go to sleep. As I lay there, I still couldn't close my eyes no matter how hard I tried. Eventually, nature won and I fell asleep. By the time I woke up the next day, the sun hadn't come up yet. I was still six and I breathed a sigh of relief that I beat the time today. The room we silent, indicating that he hadn't come home. I checked the bathroom to be sure and I got to work immediately. So it was going to be the same cycle over and over again. Wake up, clean, and stay in the room, waiting for him to come back. By the time I was done with everything, it was almost eight in the morning and the door opened. My heart dropped and thankfully, I wasn't doing anything that would get me injured or hurt. He stormed in, throwing his keys on the bed. He didn't even glance at me and I wonder where he slept. Maybe at his office, or maybe at a mistress'. What do I care? Last night had been my most peaceful night since I'd been here. As he removed his shirt, I quickly turned my head away. “There will be a party tonight for Alpha's and Lunas. And you will be attending.” The way he said it, it sounded like I didn't have a choice. And I actually didn't. I opened my mouth to acknowledge what he had said but he wasn't done. ”But don't even think for one moment that you meant anything to me because you don't. You're nothing and you will never be my Luna." I wasn't hoping for it. You'd made it clear to me a couple of days before. I nodded because he turned to face me with the same harsh eyes that he had yesterday. ”You will behave yourself when you get there. No misbehavior of any kind or else, you will pay dearly for it. You must stay by my side and you will only speak when spoken to. No, you will only speak when I say so. Do I make myself clear?” I nodded but immediately thought that he wouldn't like that. “Yes." He frowned. “Yes, what?” “Yes sir." “Good. You should be lucky I'm even considering you for this because you don't deserve it. I would have killed you and dumped your body off somewhere but I have a reputation to uphold.” I was angry and scared at the same time. Something told me that he actually could kill me if he wanted to, not caring about his reputation at all. But then again, surely death would be better than the life that I was living. I should be lucky. I didn't ask for this and I never will. I would prefer to stay in this house all day than to go to a place where I was treated like a slave. He stormed away, going into the bathroom and slamming the door shut. Only then did I realize that I'd been holding my breath. What kind of situation had I gotten myself into? No, I didn't do this to myself. My father did. Maybe I agreed too quickly out of fear. Maybe I should have grabbed a knife and said that I would kill myself if he made me do this. But then, my mother would suffer for my doings, and my sisters as well. She didn't deserve to go through all that. She was already lying about my sister's act. I sat there, thinking about what the party was going to be like, with me hiding in his shadow all night and waiting for him to give me the signal to breathe. I was still sitting in the same position when he came out. I didn't dare look up from the ground for fear of provoking him. With the way he had been threatening me for the past few days, I was scared that he would carry out his threat sooner or later. ”Some maids will come around later to get you ready. You better make yourself worth seeing even though there's little you can do to make yourself less ugly.” As he walked away and slammed the door, for the first time in my entire life, a thought crossed my mind... Was I really ugly? Or maybe he was just being mean. But then, he had been saying it since the first time he saw me. Maybe I was ugly to him. Just as he had said, some maids came around with some supplies to help me get ready. My sister has taught me how to do my own makeup and for the first time, I was so happy that I'd listened because I would have been in a sticky pickle. While the maids did my hair, I quickly applied light makeup. But everything I did kept looking wrong and ugly. After the third time of wiping my entire face, one of the maids spoke up. “Luna, is there a problem? Don't you like the supplies?” If he heard her calling me that, he'd have my head. “It’s fine. I just don't think it's really pretty. It looks wrong." She looked at the other maids. ”If I may speak freely… it does look beautiful.” His words were getting to me. I smiled at her and did it again, this time around, telling myself that it was okay. As he'd said, there was little I could do to change the way I looked. The dress was the final part. It was a red dress with an off-the-shoulder V-neck line, leaving space for some cleavage. The sleeves were lace and filled with stones, and they flowered at my feet. As the maid placed the gem on my neck, I had to ask her where she got it. “The Alpha gave it to me. He must really love you if he's giving you a real diamond.” It was real? With my luck, I'd probably lose it by the end of the night and that would put me in even more trouble.. ”He’s here.” One of the maids poked her head in and announced. I stood up, taking one look in the mirror and smiling for the first time, genuinely. I looked really nice and that was okay. If he didn't like it, then I couldn't do anything about that. I took the stairs, one at a time. Okay, so maybe I did care about what he thought but only because he threatened me. He was at the bottom of the stairs and his back was turned to me. Here was the moment of truth. As he turned around to face me, the anxiety flew out the window. I was sure my mouth was open as I stopped walking to look at him. He was wearing a black suede suit and a bowtie and the way the suit hugged his body, outlining his muscles perfectly. His long hair was pushed back from his face and I wondered what made it shine so much under the light. It was like I was looking at another version of him tonight and I wondered how I hadn't noticed that he was this handsome all this while. Maybe because he was the devil. Yes, he was the devil and he had no soul.
