Chapter 4 Disappointed
In Jackson's villa.
"Hey, isn't that Janet? Why is she hugging a man?" Emily suddenly shouted, drawing Megan's attention.
Megan quickly ran to the window and looked outside. Her expression turned sour when she saw Janet entangled with a man.
Janet had just returned. Yet, here she was, already getting involved with a man.
Emily mused over this momentarily and then deliberately asked, "Mom, that man looks quite wealthy. Could it be that Janet is being kept as a mistress?"
Megan's face darkened even further.
What else could it be?
Given the background of Janet's adoptive parents, there was no way she could have connections with wealthy people.
When Janet walked in, Megan's voice was as cold as ice. "Janet, cut off all contact with that man immediately."
Janet frowned. "What man?"
"Are you still trying to hide it from me? I saw everything!" Megan snapped. "You were hugging a man earlier! Janet, you are now the heiress of the Jackson Family. You can't be so shameless!"
"Yes, Janet. You should apologize to Mom. She will surely forgive you if you promise to keep yourself chaste," Emily added.
"Shut up."
Janet shot Emily a cold look, startling Emily. The coldness in Janet's eyes was piercing. It was enough to make Emily purse her lips together involuntarily, not daring to make a peep.
Megan immediately stood in front of Emily protectively. "Don't scare Emily. You should be reflecting on your behavior! Tell me, what is your relationship with that man?"
"Nothing."
Janet looked at Megan indifferently, her expression distant.
Then, she didn't bother saying anything as she headed upstairs. However, her heart ached slightly after that ordeal.
They had already judged her without asking for any clarification. Was that woman truly her biological mother?
Megan trembled with anger in the face of what she assumed was Janet's rebellious retreat.
Emily quickly hugged Megan's arm. "Mom, don't be mad. I'll talk to Janet. She'll understand your concerns."
Megan shook her head as she curled her lips into a bitter smile. "Emily, if only she were as sensible as you."
Her only support was this daughter who wasn't even her biological child. Her biological daughter seemed more like an enemy.
Janet was barely in school and already causing trouble by getting herself entangled with men.
How she wished Janet wasn't her daughter.
Emily smiled sweetly. "Mom, I'll always be your most sensible daughter."
"Yes."
Megan patted Emily's head, not noticing the malicious glint in Emily's eyes as she barely hid a smirk.
Emily couldn't understand why Janet seemed unaffected. She was sure she had arranged for someone to mess with her.
It wasn't until that evening after making a phone call that Emily learned a man had saved Janet.
"Such dumb luck!"
Emily clenched her fists. "Still, you won't be so lucky tomorrow."
She was determined to drive Janet out of the Jackson Family. There was no way she could return to a life of poverty after enjoying such a lavish lifestyle.
She couldn't let Janet take away her parents' affection.
She had to remain as the only heiress of the Jackson Family.
The next day, Janet went to school as usual.
Once she got in the car, Megan instructed the driver to make sure Janet was brought straight home after school as Janet was barred from loitering the area.
Janet's response was simply a slight tug at the corner of her mouth. It was easy to discern just how little trust Megan had in her.
Initially, she had hoped to be a carefree and pampered child when she learned that her biological parents were looking for her.
Yet, she immediately knew her dream would remain dreams upon arriving at the Jackson Family and seeing the disdain in Brian and Megan's eyes.
There was no love in her biological parents' eyes.
