Chapter 11: Grandma Knows Something

Selena ran back home when she saw that the wolves were no longer able to follow her. Since the mysterious white wolf helped her, she found the chance to escape. She calmed herself down and when she was near her home and felt safe, she shifted back to her human form. She had to tell her grandmother what had happened. Maybe she could explain what Selena had just experienced, because she had no idea. “Grandma! Grandma! Are you home?” she shouted, opening the door at her grandmother’s home. She found Grandma at the kitchen, mixing something at the pot on the stove. The smell was incredible, but Selena was too agitated to ask what it was. “What happened?” her grandmother asked, looking at her. “You don’t look fine. It seems like you saw a ghost.” Selena took deep breaths to recover from the running before she started to talk. “Something happened to me on the way home. I was leaving Maddie’s house when I was ambushed by four wolves.” Selena sat in one of the chairs at the kitchen, while her grandmother gave her a glass of water. She needed to calm herself down before she could tell everything. She couldn’t miss any part. “Did they hurt you? Are you hurt? How did you escape?” Grandma shot a bunch of questions at once. “No, I’m fine. Actually, it was really weird, because only one of them really attacked me. The others just stood there, blocking my way.” Her grandmother sat on the chair in front of her, giving complete attention to Selena now. She kept quite the whole time, just listening to the story her granddaughter was telling. “And when I bit him, I felt a very sharping pain on my head, and the wolf tossed me away.” “Were you able to control the powers this time?” “Yeah… I mean, better than the last time, but it was still very confusing. But that’s not even the weirdest part.” Selena stated, taking another sip of water. “Then what is it?” “I couldn’t see very clearly because I was feeling dizzy and my sight was blurry, but a white wolf appeared and attacked the wolves. I’ve never seen him before.” Grandma stood there, looking at her, without saying a word. “Grandma, did you hear me?” Selena got worried with her grandmother’s expression. She seemed petrified. “Grandma?” she repeated. “Did you say a white wolf?” Grandma asked after a long time in silence. “Yes. Why? Do you know who that is?” “Not exactly. What did he say to you?” “Nothing. Actually, I couldn’t get near him. He was gone before I could realize what was happening.” Grandma stood on her feet and started mixing whatever was in the pot again, leaving a very confused Selena on the chair. “Grandma, what is it? Just tell me.” Her grandmother turned to her. “I’ll have to make a trip.” “A trip? What kind of trip? What are you talking about?” Selena asked nervously. “You can’t just go on a trip by yourself. It’s very dangerous!” “I can take care of myself, dear. Don’t worry about me.” “Of course I worry about you. Those wolves just ambushed me and I have no idea why. What if they come after you?” “They won’t. I’ll be careful, I promise.” Grandma comforted her. “But why? Who is this white wolf and why did he save me? You know something and won’t tell me.” Selena was frustrated. She was always the last to know about anything. Grandma couldn’t tell her about the prophecy. Not yet. She would have to make some things clearer first and solve others on this trip before Selena could know something about it. “Darling, listen to me. While I’m away, I won’t be able to protect you from your father.” “Then why are you going in the first place?” Selena mourned. “It will be even harder without you here.” “Just trust me, please. You know I wouldn’t go if it wasn’t necessary. I’ll tell you everything when I get back. Just promise me that you’ll keep these powers a secret while I'm away, ok?” Selena, against her will, agreed. If one thing was true, it was that her grandmother would never leave her if it was not strictly necessary indeed. “Ok, Grandma. I trust you, you know that. Just be careful, please. I can’t lose you.” “I'm not that easy to get rid of.” Grandma smiled at her. “When are you leaving?” “In a few days. I’ll have to arrange some stuff first.” “Got it. You won’t really tell me anything, right?” Selena added, giving her a naughty and childish smile. “Don't be so curious! Is that what you’re learning with those humans? I heard they are really into gossips.” Grandma complained. “Who isn’t? Don’t pretend you aren't. We all know who spread the rumor about the Watsons.” Selena joked. “It was not a rumor, he did cheat on her with that foreign werewolf.” Grandma defended herself, receiving a laugh from her granddaughter in return. “I'm gonna take a shower and go to bed, Grandma. It’s really late and I’m exhausted.” “Goodnight, darling. Sleep tight.” At that night, Grandma could barely sleep, trying to put the pieces together. The vision she had with the Moon Spirit when Selena was young, and now this white wolf appearing on her granddaughter’s life. It wasn't a coincidence for sure. The time had finally come. It was time to start acting.
