Chapter 8 Enduring Torment
“You can't go, Sheila! You really can't! If you go, your life will truly be over!” Violette knew Horace's character all too well.
Once Sheila went to the hotel, there was no chance of her escaping unscathed.
Violette grabbed Sheila and said with a serious tone, “Sheila, stay here and wait for my update. Although Nadine is not my biological daughter, she is still my goddaughter. After all, I am somewhat of a mother to her. You have to trust me. I will definitely find a way to rescue Nadine.”
After finishing her sentence, she forcefully pulled Sheila back into the room.
Violette had quickly pressed Sheila down onto her chair before hastily rushing out the door.
A fragile woman like her was no match for Horace.
However, she had some friends in Jacaster, with whom she could brainstorm solutions.
However, Sheila did not obediently stay in the room and wait for news from Violette.
Horace had only given her half an hour, and there wasn't anything he wouldn't do.
Perhaps Violette hadn't even thought of a solution when Nadine had already fallen victim to Horace's men. Moreover, Sheila didn't want to implicate Violette either.
Therefore, Sheila did not wait any longer.
After Violette left, Sheila also hurriedly stepped out.
She then hailed a taxi on the side of the road and rushed off to Lovers Hotel.
Horace had promised that he would immediately release Nadine as long as Sheila consented to be his woman.
Sheila had already made up her mind.
Once Nadine returned safely, she would kill herself in front of Horace. No matter what, she couldn't let a monster like Horace have his way.
Sheila was already on her way to Lovers Hotel.
At that moment, within that messy yard, a strong musty odor wafted through the air.
The few young men guarding the dog crate were still gathered around it.
They watched as Nadine, who was only four years old, struggled to eat the dog food.
These people not only felt no pity for her, but they also took pleasure in her plight.
That dog food was truly too hard to stomach.
Nadine eagerly gobbled up the dog food, yet she ended up vomiting due to indigestion.
This cycle repeated itself, countless times.
Even adults couldn't bear it, let alone Nadine, whose digestive system was still not fully developed. She suffered even more.
After spitting out the dog food once again, the complexion of Nadine instantly turned even paler.
Beads of cold sweat kept forming on her small forehead.
Suddenly, Nadine's eyes rolled back, and her frail body collapsed. She had been tormented to the point of fainting.
“F*ck! This brat isn't dead, is she?”
The few young men surrounding the dog crate were all taken aback upon seeing Nadine roll her eyes back and lie down.
Horace hadn't even uttered a word about harming her yet.
If this little girl were to die, it would ruin Horace's plans. As his subordinates, they wouldn't be able to explain it to Horace.
Someone forcefully kicked the dog crate several times in hopes of waking Nadine up, but it was to no avail.
One of the young men turned his head, looking toward the large water tank in the yard.
This yard was open-air.
In the large water tank, accumulated rainwater had turned a greenish hue and was emitting a foul stench.
However, this young man didn't care much about that.
He walked over and picked up a broken basin in the yard.
Holding his breath, he drew half a basin of water.
The young man was ready to splash dirty water on Nadine to wake her up.
And it was at that moment, from outside the yard, the sudden roar of a car echoed.
The rumble of the car grew louder as it approached from a distance.
The powerful roar of the engine sent shivers down one's spine, hinting at an impending sense of unease.
Several young people in the yard pricked up their ears, eager to know what had happened.
And in the next moment, the main gate of the yard was abruptly flung open with a loud bang, as if struck by some unseen force.
The wooden door was smashed to smithereens.
The fence gate was completely wrecked, with bricks and tiles scattered all around.
Everyone saw a mud-covered dump truck suddenly burst forth from the billowing clouds of dust.
