Back at the inn, the guards were still questioning the damsels, their faces etched with worry and confusion. The only plausible explanation for the princess's disappearance seemed to be that someone within the inn had been involved. The damsels, dressed in their finest attire, looked distraught as they shook their heads, tears streaming down their cheeks. "We swear, we don't know who could have entered the princess's chamber," one of them sobbed, clutching onto her companion for support.
