Chapter 6

Kade “What? Leave her alone? Did you not see what she did to Baxter?” I saw everything and I didn’t believe it. It was pretty impressive. Baxter rolled around on the ground like an idiot, howling and whimpering. I pinched the bridge of my nose. He was asking for it. He was a great warrior, but I had doubts about him being my beta. “I saw everything, Holden,” I said to the tall dude with jet-black hair, he was also in the running to be my beta. The little redhead omega stared at me as if I were the tallest tower she’d ever seen. Then her pretty blue-green eyes started to droop. “What are you?” She said before her body went limp and I had to catch her before she hit the ground. “Whoa,” Holden backed up. She practically weighed nothing. I scooped her in my arms. She had this overbearing scent of coconut and cream. Did she faint because of me? That was new. Then I noticed the blood staining my shirt. “Shit, who scratched her?” Everyone remained silent. Even Baxter quieted down. “Who fucking scratched her?” I barked. “Who cares just throw her in the river. Her pack won’t care anyway, she’s an omega,” Baxter said. Idiot. It was true, her pack might not care. But I wasn’t about to kill her. Obviously, that’s what Leiah wanted when she sent her here. I was also intrigued by how an omega would attack a beta instead of opening her legs to please one. “I’ll deal with you later Baxter,” I said and turned. If that mark wasn’t cured soon, she would die. I didn’t need that. I had the choice to take her to the nurse, but I took her to my room instead. The wound was deep and the venom in it was travelling quickly, her arm was turning purple. I knew I was going to waste time if I went back to the academy castle. So I took her to the Alpha castle which was a few minutes from the beta gallows. She whimpered and moaned prompting me to speed up. Everyone eyed me as I rushed up the stairs with a bleeding girl in my arms. Gareth, an alpha and my arch-rival sneered along with his betas. I didn’t care I got to my room and tossed her on my bed, she didn’t make a sound. “Fuck.” Who knew Baxter’s claw would be so deadly? I rummaged through my drawers for cream or whatever traditional medicine would cure her. I found two bottles of shit that looked like mud and greens mixed together. I knew it would work even though I’d never used it. When I picked her up she was shaking. I quickly applied the remedy, hoping it would work. Fuck Baxter. A couple of seconds later her body relaxed. I expected her to wake up immediately, but she was sound asleep. I remembered watching her trying to clean the gallows with a broom Leiah threw at her. She yelled when Leiah was gone. I was three times her size yet she took on someone just as big as me without fear. I brushed her strawberry hair out of her face. There was that damn scent of coconut. I hated coconuts. My bedroom door burst open. Alex stormed in. What the fuck? “Get away from her?” He barked, his wolf shining through. “Excuse you?” I slipped away from the bed. Alex appeared by her side, caressing her face and hair. His eyes landed on the healing wound and he shot me daggers. Alex, another one of my arch rivals. I can’t say who I’d rather go with between him and Gareth. “What the hell is wrong with you? She hasn’t done anything wrong!” Alex barked. I scrutinized him and then the omega on my bed. I didn’t know he cared about the omegas in his pack so much. “What are you talking about?” I folded my arms over my chest. He obviously didn’t know what really went down. “Why was she sent to your beta gallows?” He demanded. “Ask your girlfriend.” He opened his mouth to yell but shut it again. Figures Leiah came up with a tale, but why would she have to? “Fuck.” Alex ran a hand through his hair. “You should know that she attacked a beta.” His eyes widened with alarm, “Shit Gabriella!” Gabriella. Her name replayed over and over in my head. “Look we can figure this out later. She wasn’t supposed to be punished, to begin with. I took her to the cafeteria.” That really had me scratching my head. Alex the alpha of the Henry pack was entertaining an omega? Did he forget who his mate was? Leiah was an alpha female from my pack. One of the few alpha females and one of the best too and a complete psycho sometimes. “Forget it. I’m not punishing her.” Alex slipped his arms under her shoulders and knees. He brought her to his chest and she made a slight sound. At least she wasn’t dead. “Good. I don’t think I would let you anyway.” “Wait, am I missing something here? She is an omega right?” He gave me a deep frown. “Doesn’t matter what she is. She didn’t do anything wrong. Keep away from her Kade same goes for your pups.” He carried the girl out of my room, leaving me with a head full of questions. My pack had a severe dislike for omegas. The Sanders pack was obsessed with power and omegas symbolized everything that stood in the way of power. Weakness. My forefathers even banned mating with omegas and banned omegas from reproducing. It isn’t like that anymore, but omegas are still frowned upon. I’d never thought much about them, they stayed out of the way, and they were like shadows in my pack. That little kitten looked anything but weak. Even though she caved to the scratch pretty quickly. I hated to say I was intrigued. *** Sometime in the evening, I made my way to the lounge where all the Alphas hung out. There was a small group of us so we all hung out together. I wouldn’t call Gareth and Alex my friends, but we ran in the same circles. Some of the other alphas were cool. Each pack had one alpha heir then there were the betas strong enough to go up against him for the title of alpha. Those betas were only identified in the last year of the academy during the battle moon. I would know my rivals soon, not that I was worried. “Are you going to let us in on the latest Kade?” Eva, Gareth’s mate asked. A little too eager for my liking. “Why don’t you ask Leiah?” I growled. Eva leaned on the edge of her seat. “I want to know what happened when you took her to your room.” She winked. I shut my eyes. Here it comes. “He did, did he?” Harlow snapped. Harlow was my mate. A girl I’d known most of my life, from a different pack. She was a courageous alpha female. I’d chosen wisely when I picked her to be my partner for life. She was also Leiah’s close friend. She was also possessive and wild. It was great when she was riding me all night, but there were times when it got old. “I wasn’t about to let her die.” I grounded out. “I can’t believe the little thing attacked a beta,” Eva said. Gareth chuckled, but the blond wolf said nothing. “She’s proving to be a lot more trouble than I hoped.” Leiah sneered. Alex wasn’t among the group. Not that I gave a damn. “You’ll have to find another way to get rid of her,” Harlow said, running a nail filer across her nails. Leiah groaned, “I can’t. Apparently, the little omega is Alex’s best friend. He might be pissed if I get rid of her.” Best friend? Alex had an omega best friend? It explained a few things. “Oh, that explains why she’s still in his room.” Eva blurted out. I shut my eyes and groaned, knowing that Leiah was going to explode. “She’s where?!” She bolted off the couch. “Here we go,” I mumbled. “I’m going to kill that little cunt!” She stormed off. “This should be interesting.” My white-haired girlfriend grinned at me before following her friend. I stayed put. It was none of my business. This was Alex’s mess. The only way the kitten would make it out of this was if she broke down and accepted who ran things around here. A part of me didn’t think she would crack so easily.
