Chapter 9 Meeting Up With A Country Bumpkin
Although Mabel reluctantly admitted that she would seek help from Victor, her actions contradicted her words. Naomi practically had to drag her out of the house.
"Hunter, come with me!"
"No thanks! I promised my brothers I would join them for a game session! Naomi is right, you are the eldest among us..."
Naomi slammed the door, creating a loud bang. It was then that Mabel realized she hadn't even properly washed herself since she was busy buying groceries in the morning.
Her hair was messy, and she was dressed casually.
She thought that since she was just meeting up with a country bumpkin, she didn't need to make herself presentable. However, the idea of sucking up to him bothered her. Would she really force herself to do something so unimaginable?
If it weren't for the fear of having her assets frozen and confiscated, she would never want to see that despicable human being again. The fear of returning to a life of poverty was what motivated her to do something she detested.
Frustrated, she took out her phone and dialed a number that she hadn't even saved in her contact list...
Meanwhile, Victor was attentively listening to Eileen's report at his desk in the headquarters of Phoenixhive Group.
The office was filled with a somber atmosphere. Everyone, from the higher-ups to the secretaries, wanted to join him in his new venture in Xashania.
Victor's phone buzzed on his desk. He glanced at the screen and saw that it was Mabel calling. With a frown, he refused to answer.
Mabel continued to bombard him with calls, and all the employees turned their attention to Victor, curious to see how he would respond. Victor answered the call in frustration, "Why are you calling?"
Victor's tone was so cold that Mabel felt the urge to reprimand and insult him right then and there. She couldn't believe he was speaking to her in such a manner.
However, she had to remember that she couldn't let Silverdream fall apart. She couldn't let go of a life of wealth. Suppressing her emotions, she lowered her voice. "I... want to see you!"
"I don't have time to see you!"
For the past two years, Victor had endured Mabel's derogatory remarks repeatedly.
Just because he chose to take on his wife's family name, Mabel took every opportunity to mock him.
In order to maintain his marriage with Rachel, he could endure anything. Now that he was no longer tied to the Holden family, he had severed all connections with them. In his eyes, Mabel meant nothing.
Mabel almost exploded with anger when she heard Victor blatantly refuse to see her.
Her hands gripped her phone tightly as they shook. She could feel her blood pressure rising. She was astounded by how rude Victor had become. She used to be his mother-in-law, yet that meant nothing now. She thought he was utterly disrespectful and ungrateful, considering she was the one allowing this scumbag to enter her family. She wished she could tear him apart, just as she used to do.
Despite her raging emotions, Mabel wasn't foolish. She had work to do. She had to save Rachel's company. It wasn't the right time to insult Victor.
"I have something to talk to you about..." This was the first time in two years that Mabel had been patient with Victor.
The glass door of Victor's office opened, and Margot entered, swaying her hips. She couldn't hide her admiration whenever she looked at Victor.
Victor had an idea. A cruel smile formed on his lips. "Alright, I will see you. Come to the Dazzling Shopping Center later!"
Victor had no idea why Mabel wanted to see him, but he knew why Margot was around him.
Margot couldn't stay away from Victor these days. That secretly amused Victor. If he weren't the CEO of Phoenixhive Group, would Margot still admire him?
The answer was obviously no!
In fact, if he had revealed his true identity to Rachel, the Holden family would have treated him much differently than they had in the past.
He always believed that humans were hypocrites, and it was time for him to release his pent-up frustrations from the past two years. It was long overdue. Since Mabel wanted to see him, he would accommodate her and make her realize how wrong she had been. He wanted her to see him for who he truly was, so that she would regret her past actions forever.
After the meeting ended and all the other employees had left, Margot wrapped her arms around Victor's shoulders. Victor held her hand and said, "I'll take you to the Dazzling Shopping Center later."
Mabel stood in a green area near her house, furiously plucking leaves off a tree. The security guard approached her to stop her barbaric actions, but she snapped back at them. Finally, she felt a bit calmer.
Then, she walked out onto the streets and hailed a cab to go to the Dazzling Shopping Center.
Upon arriving, she got out of the car and started walking towards the main entrance. However, a brand new Maybach with impeccable black paint screeched to a stop next to her.
Mabel had seen this model before in a magazine. It was a classic car that exuded luxury. She couldn't help but want to get a good look at it.
The door of the Maybach opened, and a young man stepped out.
Mabel froze. Although he was dressed formally, she immediately recognized that this man was none other than Victor.
"Hey, you're a chauffeur now? Not that I want to berate you, but don't you think it's inappropriate to drive your boss's car out in broad daylight? If you somehow damage it, you won't be able to afford the cost of repairs!" Mabel wasted no time insulting him.
"You're right!" Victor simply said. He felt sorry for Mabel because all he could see in front of him was a clown.
Margot also got out of the car. Victor rarely took her shopping, so she had decided to make the most of her day.
Then, Victor and Margot walked through the front door of the Dazzling Shopping Center.
Mabel chased after them. "Victor, who is this girl? Did you hook up with another wealthy woman? Aren't you ashamed of yourself for sacrificing your dignity like this?"
Margot couldn't contain her excitement as she hurried towards a sales counter that showcased high-end skincare products. Victor responded casually to Mabel, "You're absolutely right! You're completely right about that!"
Victor chuckled to himself. If he didn't get back at Mabel and teach her a lesson soon, she would continue living in her delusion!
"I need to talk to you about something..."
"Take your time..."
Margot was waving at him from a distance. Victor walked towards her.
"Darling, I want to buy perfume and lipstick. I also want a facial set. What should I do?"
"This mall has twenty-eight floors. You can buy whatever you want!"
"Honey, you're the best..." Margot thanked him and leaned in to give him a peck on the cheek.
In no time, Margot had selected over thirty items from international vendors.
At the checkout counter, Victor didn't even glance at the prices as he pulled out a bank card. He handed it to the cashier and said, "I want all of these. Pay with the card!"
Mabel was right behind him and hastily warned the cashier, "Hey, don't believe this man. He's broke and insane. He used to be my son-in-law, but he's been disowned by the family. Don't trust him... He must have stolen that card!"
"What do you mean he stole this? There are only ten of these cards in the world, and they're adorned with a custom design. Before anyone can use this card, their identity has to be verified. If they're not the owner of the card, the police will be notified immediately..." The cashier swiped the card on her machine while explaining. A receipt printed out, confirming a successful transaction.
Impatiently, the cashier glared at Mabel and handed Victor his card, "This is the Gilt Dragon Card, and to make it even more prestigious, it's one of the ten limited edition cards in the world... It has a transaction limit of fifty million dollars. Sir, please keep your card!"
"The... Most prestigious one?" Mabel was speechless.
"You must be wondering why this is the most prestigious one. That's because, right where you're standing, this gentleman owns all one hundred or more shops in the Dazzling Shopping Mall. Naturally, he was granted the most prestigious card..."
The cashier respectfully bowed in front of Victor.
Victor casually returned the card to his wallet, resting his elbow on the marble-top counter.
Mabel felt the world spinning around her. She pinched her thigh hard and realized she wasn't dreaming!
In that moment, she looked as if she had seen a ghost. She stared at Victor wide-eyed, her face blank...
