Chapter 10 Meeting Mary Again
At the thought of this, Samantha shook her head. She would never let her son know that his father had a job like that. In her opinion, her son would grow up well-loved with or without a father figure in his life. Plus, it was nice to note that her father also held considerable affection for him, which added to her happiness.
The next day, she sent her son to school early and headed toward the company.
Then, she was occupied by a meeting about the company's new product launch, in which Rose wanted everyone to submit more than ten proposals by the end of the month.
When everyone left the meeting room, Ella intentionally bumped into Samantha and provoked her. "I heard that President Xylon has raised the reward to a million, so you should know that I won't be defeated by you, Samantha."
In that instant, Samantha was stunned by Ella's sudden provocation, which left her wondering what Joseph was up to with the one-million reward.
Somehow, she had a feeling that Joseph was trying to interfere with the competition, considering his power and status.
Is this guy trying to give me one million like that? No way! Fairness is the most important thing about this competition!
After all, the last thing I want is to be a champion in a rigged competition arranged by him.
While Samantha returned to her office with complicated emotions, Dawn came over with a cup of coffee and said, "Miss Woodword, you have a guest."
"A guest? Who?"
"She specifically requested our chief designer who returned from abroad. I've settled her in the lounge. I'll go get her now," Dawn said.
"Sure." Samantha had no idea who the visitor was, so she decided to wait and find out.
Not long after that, a knock on the door was heard shortly before Dawn opened the door with a silhouette that emerged from behind her. Although it had been five years since that upsetting incident, Samantha was instantly filled with hatred.
Likewise, Mary was shocked to see Samantha.
She was eager to try things she hadn't experienced before after spending her days living a luxurious life. These days, she suddenly wanted to have a set of high-end custom-made jewelry.
She knew that Navette was a famous jewelry brand in the country that offered private customization services. Moreover, she was aware that they had recently brought back a renowned jewelry designer from abroad. That was why she had come to this place.
Yet, she unexpectedly saw the person she least wanted to see here—Samantha.
Mary's face showed a brief moment of panic, but she quickly regained her composure.
Samantha was a talented artist, but when she was kicked out of her home, she was only 19 and didn't even finish university. There is no way she could become a designer. She might be working here as a janitor.
She firmly believed that Samantha didn't do well abroad. At this thought, she couldn't hide the trace of contempt in her eyes. "What are you doing here, Samantha?"
"I was just about to ask you the same question." Samantha glared at her.
"I'm here to customize jewelry of course," Mary said proudly. In the past, her life had been tight, but now things were different. She could have whatever she wanted.
Samantha furrowed her brows upon hearing her answer. She remembered that Mary's family used to have an average financial situation. Yet, the woman was buying high-end custom jewelry now. Has her family become rich in the past five years?
Mary, frustrated by Samantha's silence, spoke indignantly, "Hey, you still haven't answered my question! What are you doing here?"
"What does it have to do with you?" Samantha couldn't be bothered to respond to her.
Mary gritted her teeth as she suppressed her anger and demanded, "Has your life gone downhill so much that you're working as a janitor here? Are you too embarrassed to admit it?"
Samantha looked at her with a cold, impatient expression. She felt there was no need to explain anything to her.
Even though Mary still hadn't received a response, her conviction in her theory grew stronger. Yet, she couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy as she gazed at Samantha's strikingly beautiful face.
Five years had passed, and Samantha appeared to be living in destitution. Nonetheless, the woman still exuded an air of elegance and grace.
Her skin was flawless, showing no signs of the wear and tear of time. When she stood there, it was as if she were a goddess, looking down upon Mary, leaving her feeling utterly defeated.
Still, Mary quickly remembered that she had replaced Samantha, and a sense of unease welled up within her.
She was unsure whether Samantha remembered who the man from that night was up until now.
Since Joseph had identified her because of the watch, he certainly couldn't recall who the woman from that night was.
After all, she wasn't aware of what was going on that night, but there was no telling that any word they said during their conversation could just jog their memory and help them recognize each other.
What if Samantha recognizes him? After all, she wasn't aware of what was going on that night, but there was no telling that any word they said during their conversation could just jog their memory and help them recognize each other.
With this in mind, Mary was overwhelmed by panic. I can't remain passive; I need to test her.
She put on a fake expression and said, "Samantha, we haven't seen each other for such a long time. How can you be so cold to me?"
Samantha clenched her jaw, suppressing her angry urge to give the lady a slap in the face.
"The nerve of you to ask me that? I feel disgusted just by seeing you!" Samantha clenched her jaw, suppressing her fury to give the lady a slap in the face.
"I disgust you? What's wrong? Weren't you satisfied with the gigolo whom you slept with that night? I picked the most handsome one for you." Mary smiled sinisterly.
"Shut up!" Samantha shivered from head to toe in anger.
"What's wrong? Was his stamina not good enough? Samantha, aren't you afraid I'll spill the beans and let everyone in your company know your sordid past? Especially after how you've mistreated me? Let's see how you'll manage to survive here by then."
Samantha was utterly shocked by Mary's shamelessness.
Mary became even more delighted when she noticed Samantha's reaction and continued to probe. "Scared now? If that man stood in front of you, would you even recognize him?"
"Of course, I would," Samantha replied icily with a grim expression.
Mary's smug expression instantly vanished, replaced by a look of astonishment.
