That Maddie didn't immediately walk away, well, that wasn't a shock. She hurried to get us fresh drinks, including water, but only after standing there for a moment. She seemed to drink us in, both of us, much to my astonishment. I still had to adjust to that kind of scenario, one of a lusty young lass like her seemingly having the hots for me... and apparently my daughter, at once. We stared at each other for a little longer, no words left to say right then, and certainly no way to say things without altering our relationship in some way. We had said quite a bit as it was, so we silently ate and my stomach rumbled a little, but I kept eating, but switched to ginger ale instead of the cold brew at this point. I took an antacid, a chewable, and counted that as my likely dessert, since it had a sweet, if chalky flavor and texture.
