When Thea saw that the Bentley had abruptly slowed down, she thought the chauffeur might bring the car to a stop, but just as she was about to cross over to the window, the car fired up once more and began to inch toward her. She froze in place as she gaped at the approaching vehicle in astonishment. The Bentley’s windows were tinted dark, but even if she could not catch a glimpse of what was going on inside, she could distinctly feel the piercing gaze directed at her, like a predator locking down on its prey before it swooped in for the kill.
