The ultimate basis for this decision was because everyone agreed that even though the cosmic merchants were a level four civilization, their technology was a little lopsided, so their battle skills must be weak. Even if they were a little stronger than humans, they wouldn’t be that much stronger that humans couldn’t battle it out with them when push came to shove, unless if it was a crisis between life and death.
