The air in Vienna was laced with the crisp bite of December. Snow dusted the cobblestone streets, catching the golden glow of the lanterns that lined the path to the old Winter Market. Bells chimed in the distance, their sound soft and almost mournful beneath the laughter of children skating on the frozen canal nearby.
Isabella’s boots crunched softly as she stepped through the entrance to the market square, Damian’s hand protectively on her lower back. The crowd moved around them like a tide, but she hardly noticed. Her eyes were fixed on the heart of the square—where, nestled beneath garlands of fairy lights and pine, stood the exact booth from the photograph.
