Nico’s hand lingered on the doorknob, but his body refused to follow through with the movement. Why hadn’t he left yet? The impulse was there, his mind screaming at him to go, but something kept him rooted to the spot. He couldn’t shake the feeling that Giovanni was watching him, even though Giovanni had yet to move from his seat. The man’s cool demeanor remained unchanged, his eyes locked onto Nico with that calculating intensity that made it hard for Nico to breathe.
