Chapter 23 Strange Relations

Calista approached Peyton's room, her mind still buzzing with the odd dynamic between Alaric and Peyton she’d noticed. Alaric's visits were sporadic and mostly late at night, which seemed unusual for an expecting father, especially given Peyton's fragile condition. As she entered, Peyton was awake, sitting up slightly against her pillows, her face more composed than the last time Calista had seen her in such distress. Peyton's eyes, however, still carried a heaviness—an anxious glint that didn't go unnoticed by Calista.
