Chapter 35

I stare at the mirror, barely able to recognize myself. The woman staring back at me is pale, with deep dark circles beneath her eyes, blood splattering across her arms and clothes. I look hard, my face like stone and the soft woman, the one I’m always wishing to be is gone. I resemble what I used to be before in the wars. The Lycan Queen, a monster in disguise. I part my lips, licking the roughness of them, unable to draw my eyes away. The last time I looked like this had been during the war and I had hoped never to have to bring back this side of me, but it looked as though I had little choice. The sound of a door slowly creaking open has me whirling around and attempting to shut the bathroom door before he can see me. The last thing I want to see is condemnation from my mate’s eyes. Before I can lock it though, he’s opened it, using that surprising strength of it, his eyes widening as he takes me in.
