Chapter 7 How Could He Have A Relationship With His Step Sister ?

Richard looked somewhat surprised, but he did not comment. I moistened my lips and quietly asked, "What about our wedding night, what was the reason?" Vaguely, I remembered, that night I sat on the balcony and waited for an entire night. Leaving your newlywed wife behind on a wedding night without a care, he left the house. I thought it must be something serious, worrying about his safety, wondering if I had done anything to displease him, and yet hoping he would return home soon. At that time, I was just twenty-three, and through a series of mishaps, I married the man I had been secretly in love with for years. How could I not have expectations for this marriage and him? However, it wasn't until today that I found out, while I was anxiously waiting for him to return home, he was spending time with another woman. This whole situation felt like a cruel joke. Richard did not hide it from me now, his voice sounding refreshingly calm, "There was a bit of an accident with her drag racing that night, the police informed me to pick her up." How coincidental. She had an accident on the day of my wedding with Richard, and it happened late at night. But I remember vividly, just a couple of days after the wedding during the family banquet, she was present, completely unharmed. I rolled down the car window, quiet for a moment and then said with apparent composure, "Richard, if she has a place in your heart, we can part on amicable terms." He took a sudden break, parking the car on the side of the road. His gaze was firmly fixed on me, showing, for once, a rare hint of emotion towards me. At last, the calmness was no longer dull. "I never thought... " "Buzz—" The vibration of the text message interrupted his voice. He glanced at it irritably and his expression suddenly became stern. With hardly any hesitation, he said, "She's in trouble, I may have to go check on her." "..." I held back the bitterness spreading from my chest, struggling to control my emotions, giving him a glance under the streetlight. The person I used to long for so deeply, now made me feel somewhat disheartened. "I understand." I tiredly opened the car door and stepped out. In the heat of anger, I contemplated divorce. But after all, he's someone I've loved for so many years, it's impossible to let go easily. I'm afraid of not being able to let go. I'm afraid of possibly regretting it someday when I think back. As the black Maybach sped away, I sighed deeply. Looking at the bustling traffic and blinking neon lights, I felt a familiar sense of loneliness. "What are you up to?" Suddenly, I received a call from Amelia. Her voice, like herself, was flamboyant and vibrant. The wind of early autumn blew past, giving me a chill. I tightened my coat around myself and crossed the street when the traffic light turned green. "Out for a walk." "Didn't expect our esteemed CEO Lincoln to enjoy such leisurely activities. Is he accompanying you...?" "No, I'm alone," I cut her off helplessly. "What kind of a man leaves his woman alone on a holiday? Where are you?" Amelia's temper flared instantly. When it came to my concerns, she had the ability to attack anyone indiscriminately. I couldn't help but laugh. "At Eta New Town." "Wait there, I'll pick you up." She dropped this line and hung up the phone hastily. In less than twenty minutes, a white Audi Q3 stopped in front of me. She rolled down the window, "Get in." "Spill it, what happened?" Once I got into the car, Amelia glanced at me while driving and said, "Don't tell me you walked eight or nine kilometers all by yourself." She seemed hot-tempered and impulsive, yet, she was more rational and considerate than anyone could imagine. I've never thought about deceiving her, and at that moment, I simply told her the ins and outs of the situation. Amelia's face was full of question marks, as she blurted out, "So that Bianca, wants Richard to divorce you for her? No wonder I bumped into her at the company during the day and saw that she was wearing a Patek Philippe watch, truly a great watch, great shameless woman! And also Richard, what's he unclearly messing around with other women for while still married? I see him as the runner-up in the Math and English community, such a 2B moron!" "So what do you think?" she asked after cursing. "I haven't thought it through yet." I shook my head. Amelia freed up one hand and poked my head, "You, usually so clever, get muddled when it comes to Richard. A few meals have messed up your entire life, only you constantly thinking about it, Richard definitely forgot about it centuries ago." She suddenly brought it up, and I was somewhat confused, "What meal?" She raised her eyebrows, "The few meals Richard treated you to in the cafeteria, forgot?" " I will never forget that. The reason I fell for Richard was because of this. My parents had passed away early, and my aunt took me home. She wanted to treat me well, but there was still my uncle and cousin. I started working part-time in junior high, and in university, I completely relied on myself to earn tuition and living expenses. Once I had to make a temporary payment, and after paying, I was short of living expenses. Due to malnutrition, I once fainted at school and was sent to the school clinic by Richard. When I woke up, the clear and bright boy was by my side, the sun shining on his body made him appear radiant. With just one glance, I was stunned. He didn't say much, only spoke, "Awake? The doctor says you're malnourished, pay more attention to your nutrition." "Thank you, you are..." "No need to thank me, I have to leave for something." The conversation was cold and distant to the extreme, just like him. But later, either he or his friend would casually put a dish of cooked food in front of me at the cafeteria. Their excuses were clumsy, but they never made me feel embarrassed or inferior. ... Amelia abruptly asked, “Tell me, was it really because of those few meals? Or, love at first sight?" "...both, I suppose." I didn't deny it. Falling for Richard, apart from those meals, was more because of who he is as a person. For someone accustomed to walking in the darkness, it is normal to long for light when they see it. Amelia saw things thoroughly, "Subjectively speaking, I've never endorsed your relationship with Richard. His demeanor is cool and restrained, and he effortlessly maintains a steady emotional state. To put it bluntly, he's just not committed. In fact, he is cold-hearted and unpredictable. You can't control him easily." However, this isn't the first time she has mentioned this to me. In the past, I would refute Amelia's remarks since my marriage with Richard was harmonious. As she continued to discuss, she furrowed her flawless brows, "But, how can Richard, being as astute as he is, simply hand over ten percent of his shares to please you? The moment you shared this with me, I found it hard to comprehend him. Could it be that in three years of marriage, some feelings had indeed developed between you?" I too was at a loss over this. The more I thought about it, the more confused I got. During our conversation, the car slowly pulled up in front of a bar. Feeling helpless, I said, "I cannot drink." "Why? Are you on antibiotics?" she asked. I pointed towards my belly, feeling a soft flutter in my heart, "Amelia, I am pregnant." "What? I'm going to be a godmother?!" Her eyes widened with surprise and joy, flustered for a while before gently placing her hand on my stomach. "When did you find out? How far along are you? Are you feeling unwell, any morning sickness?" She threw questions at me in a barrage while continuing to touch my belly. I chuckled and answered each of her queries one by one. To tell the truth, from the moment I got pregnant until now, I finally felt the mood to share my joy with others. I also realized that besides me, there are also people looking forward to the little life inside my belly. It was not until her phone started ringing that Amelia came back to her senses. She didn't answer the phone and, dragging me along, got out of the car and gestured towards Henry, who had run out of the bar, “Stop pestering me, with your calls and WhatsApp messages.” Amelia was beautiful and had a good personality, and she got along well with Henry and his group. "Isn't it because I haven't seen you for a long time? I've missed you." Henry, always ready with a joke, looked at me somewhat surprised, "Sis-in-law? Weren't you guys supposed to spend the festival with the old man tonight? Where is Brother Richard?" Amelia, who was an expert at redirection, scolded angrily, "Shameless. You and your buddies are no good. I warn you, don't tip off Richard, don't let him know that Sophia has come." "Who said that? My 'bird' is just fine," blurted out Sophia.
