The yard darkens, a thick wave of black pouring from me like blood from a wound. It’s not controlled — not anymore. The energy spikes, wild and unbridled, engulfing the light and the wolves and the council’s soldiers until the only thing I hear is the thunder of my own heart and the din of snarls and shouts. My hands shake, outstretched, the shadows twist and writhe, a living storm I can’t bring to heel. I wanted to make us safe, but this — this looks like destruction. “Fynn!” Morgan’s voice, sharp and urgent, cuts in from the left.
