Chapter 5 My Reality

Denara’s Pov It was almost dark in here, the curtains were closed and I could almost believe it was midnight. At some point my eyes teared up as the dismay of my reality continued to hit me. I stared down at my hands to see how it trembled. Panic was an understatement to how I was feeling. I could hear my heart throb in my ears and I could sense my wolf whimper with her tail between her legs. I was doomed. All I wanted was to have a peaceful life with my mate, just one normal mate like every other werewolf, I never asked for any of this to happen. Heck, I wished I was never born. My life flashed before my eyes as I watched the two brothers who were supposedly my mates argue about something I could almost not hear. My ears were filled with my words, but who would want to listen to an ordinary nobody? There was no way in hell I would survive a day here. The masked Alpha, ruler of all the other packs, feared by all, had announced me as his mate. It was not a topic up for debate and it all made more sense now. After my rejection, I was treated more than the disappointment they believed me to be. For the past few hours, I have had a compressed weight on my chest, almost making it harder to breathe. Along with an aching hollow sensation as though my heart had been ripped out of my body and torn into bits. And now I was sold out to a brutal masked Alpha. “You cannot do this Rockan!” I heard the younger brother who I remembered being called Tyris yell out. A tear managed to escape my eyes. I was seated at the edge of the bed and all I wanted to do was curl up a hole and die. So instead, I snuggled up, dragging my legs to my chest and wrapping my arms around them. I wanted this hell to end. “I’m tired,” I whimpered, trying to manage my sobs so as not to piss anyone off. They heard. “You didn't even ask for her name,” Prince Tyris pointed out. “What’s your name, mate?” Alpha Rockan’s voice was low and almost a growl, making me wince. “De… Denera… Denara Shawn,” I stuttered, keeping my head low. My breathing was etched for a moment when Tyris moved towards me, cupping my hands in his. And for that short period of time, I could almost sense the comfort emitting from his actions. It didn’t last long because, in a matter of seconds, he was in Rockan’s hands, ready to receive a blow. “Don’t you ever—” “Or what?” Tyris cut in, standing up to face him. “She’s my mate too, can’t you see?” My eyes widened in realization and horror. He was not wrong. I was mated to him too. What sort of madness was this?! “Little mate, don’t ever let anyone do that to you... anyone!” Alpha Rockan commanded and I swear my heart was about to jump out of my chest. “Yes sir,” I cried. There was a moment of silence, only my sobs echoing around the room. “And... I don’t bite.” He added, his voice was a lot calmer than I ever could imagine. It was almost as if he cared. “Don’t cry Denara.” Tyris added, drawing closer again and sitting beside me, but this time, I jerked away, in fear of the punishment Alpha Rockan might bring my way. Once again, they both noticed my tensed reactions and the room fell silent again. My breathing was fast paced and I almost sounded like I was shivering from a cold. This was true fear. “I didn’t mean to make you cry,” I heard Alpha Rockan say and I paused, staring into blank space as I began to have mixed feelings and thoughts of who this person truly was. Shoving his brother aside, he took the position beside me, shocking both me and my wolf. He was actually showing empathy. Was this real? Trembling, I turned to look up and face him, but he didn’t attempt to remove his mask, which was respectfully one of the most terrifying things about him. Then he turned to his brother. “Leave.” “Is she really your mate?” Prince Tyris questioned in disbelief. He was probably stunned about how soft for that moment his brother had become. “Do I look like a liar to you?” Alpha Rockan snapped back. This was enough to get Tyris out of the room and a huge part of me wanted him to stay back, so that way Rockan would focus his rage on him and I would stay invisible. “I really do not bite, little mate. You should stop being so afraid of me,” Alpha Rockan said and I nodded like the obedient person I was trained to be. I wanted to ask him if it was possible for his brother to spend the night with us, that way I would be less scared of what he might do to me but like the coward I’d always been, I was too afraid of asking him so I sat back and let him do the talking. “Won’t you take a shower, little mate?” He asked, then it occurred to me that I hadn’t had my bath nor removed my makeup after all the stress of the day. “I will…I think you should go first.” I suggested, hoping he wouldn’t be mad at me. “Alright little mate. I’ll go first.” He finally left my side and I could finally breathe in peace. This was my reality now. Mated to a monster and his younger brother. The next plan was to run away and never be found again. But was it even possible to do that? With how big and secured the pack was I didn’t think I’d leave here alive. But giving it a try wouldn’t be a bad idea or would it? Besides I wasn’t scared of dying, I just didn’t want to die in the hands of my aunt and her family, that way I would be a sore loser. Back to reality, how would I ever be able to escape from this nightmare the only family I had ever known had sold me into?
