Chapter 5 A Single Room
Zac quickly rushed over and grabbed him, pleading, "Arthur, don't go, please don't go. If you leave, Mom and Dad will be heartbroken."
His body swayed unsteadily, tears welling up in his eyes as he helplessly said, "Stop arguing. It's all because of me. It's because of me that you're fighting. Please, don't let me ruin things. I'll leave, I'll go pack my things right now!"
With that, he stepped toward the stairs.
But before he could even take a step, he suddenly staggered and collapsed!
"Zac!" The Gray family was immediately filled with frantic screams.
John rushed over like a lightning bolt, catching him in his arms, panic-stricken as he shouted, "Quick! Get the driver! Take him to the hospital!"
Zac's eyes were tightly shut, and John's hands were trembling as he held him. The Gray family was thrown into chaos in an instant.
As they passed Arthur, Zac secretly opened his eyes and shot him a warning glare.
Arthur recognized that look all too well. In his past life, every time Zac shot him that look, he would inevitably receive a brutal beating the next day.
Well, Zac's acting skills are truly impressive. He could be a film star!
Arthur suppressed the anger bubbling inside him.
Now wasn't the time for revenge. He had suffered too much in his past life. He had exposed Zac's true nature before, but Zac always played dead, pretending to be helpless. If Arthur made a move, Zac would pretend to have been startled awake.
For now, his priority was to grow stronger.
Once he had enough strength, then he'd have the power to seek revenge.
John glared at Arthur with malice, his voice low and threatening, "You'd better pray that Zac is fine, or else I won't spare you!"
Well! These are the words of a biological father to his own son, all for the sake of a fake, pretentious adopted son.
Of course, Zac was fine. His heart condition wasn't serious. He just liked pretending to be fragile and faint, which caused the Gray family to dote on him so much.
But Arthur didn't care anymore.
He couldn't care less about those so-called family ties!
Once he let go of that bitterness, he wasn't as angry with John's injustice anymore.
After they rushed Zac to the hospital in a panic, Arthur grabbed his old, worn-out suitcase and left the house.
He didn't want to argue with Zac at that moment. What mattered more was that he didn't want to waste any more time moving out.
He was disgusted by this place and the Gray family.
Driver Peter entered through the door, looking at Arthur with concern. "Mr. Arthur…"
Arthur cut him off, "Don't say anything, just take me to school."
If there was anyone in the Gray family who treated him with any decency, it was Peter, who still saw him as the son of the Gray family.
"Yes," Peter sighed, ultimately saying nothing more.
Maybe Mr. Arthur would be happier living at school than at home.
It was Saturday, and there was someone on duty at the school. Arthur had Peter drop him off outside the school, and he walked alone to the administration office to handle his dormitory registration.
An older woman was in charge of the registration. Arthur politely greeted her, "Hello, madam, I need to register for the dormitory."
The woman lazily glanced at Arthur. When she saw his worn-out suitcase and faded clothes, a flicker of disdain appeared in her eyes.
"Do you have the dorm fee?"
"Yes," Arthur said, feeling the money he had saved up for a long time in his pocket.
The woman impatiently tossed him a notebook. "Fill in your details."
Arthur didn't say anything further, taking the notebook and writing down his information.
There were plenty of people in this world who looked down on others, and he didn't need to waste time on her. Because he had more important things to do.
When it came to selecting a dorm room, Arthur chose a single room.
The woman glanced at the notebook, and the disdain in her eyes deepened.
The poor boy wants to live in a single room like the rich kids? Well, it's another one pretending to be someone he's not.
"The only single room left is the worst one. It's the same price as a regular single room. Do you still want it?"
Arthur nodded. "Yes."
By now, the semester had been underway for a while, and it wasn't surprising that the better rooms were taken. A single room would be enough.
In the days ahead, he needed a quiet environment and didn't want to be disturbed.
After handing over the money he had saved up, the woman led Arthur to the farthest corner of the dorm building.
She opened a door covered in dust and pointed inside. "This is it."
Arthur was immediately choked by the thick dust and couldn't stop coughing. Even though he had mentally prepared himself, the sight inside still surprised him.
He wondered, How long has this dormitory been unoccupied for it to be so dusty?
