Byron and Emily insisted that Mateo should stay with them during his recovery so that they could assist him with anything he needed. For the first two weeks, he was not supposed to move his leg at all to let he bones heal. Pretty soon, Mateo was walking with crutches. After the initial recovery, the doctors recommended putting more weight on the leg to prevent the muscles from atrophying.
