Chapter 9 A World of Difference Between Them
It was noon, and the cafes were located in a nearby mall. In addition, her orders were from several cafes.
Isabella held her notebook and went from one shop to another, carrying the cups of coffee back and forth. In no time, she was drenched in sweat. Her vision blacked out several times, and she bit her lip hard to keep from passing out on the spot.
"Mr. Shaffer, you can rest assured about this collaborative project. Our mall is fully capable of hosting it."
"Hmm." There was only a faint response.
Isabella's mind suddenly raced. I must have misheard. She squinted her eyes to get a better look through the crowd.
On the escalator, a man in a neatly tailored suit with a stern expression was descending slowly. Following him were a group of bodyguards and secretaries. Well, isn't it Seth Shaffer?
It seemed like her bad luck had followed her all the way here.
Quickly, Isabella picked up the dozen cups of coffee. Without thinking, she waded into the crowd. She might not care, but she still had her pride, and she didn't want Seth or her former colleagues to see her as a laughingstock. However, perhaps her luck had been bad recently because it felt like she ran into a leaking roof on a rainy day.
Just as she was about to move, she unfortunately bumped into a person. Her mind seemed to explode instantly, and she lost her balance, falling backward.
Immediately, the coffee was spilled all over the floor, and Isabella fell into the middle of the puddle. Screams of shock came from the surroundings, mixed with the cursing from the man she bumped into. The scene was chaotic.
"Isabella?" Without even looking, Isabella recognized that voice. It belonged to Fiona from the secretarial office.
Amidst the chatter, the sound of leather shoes tapping against the ground was particularly loud. Even though there was a crowd, the sound seemed to present its nobility to her. She could even imagine the disdain in Seth's eyes and thought he was probably calling her a loser inside.
"What's Miss Symons doing here?"
"I thought she's the executive secretary…"
Feeling her head spinning, Isabella had to clench her fists to stay calm. Before she could recover from her dizziness, she kept her head as low as possible, using her hair to cover herself and somewhat cover her embarrassing state.
The man stopped before Isabella, and she could clearly see his shiny leather shoes. Though she didn't dare raise her head, she could clearly feel his piercing gaze on her back. "Is this the extent of cleanliness your mall can do? I have reason to be skeptical about whether your mall can host Shaffer Group's project."
Although those words were directed at the manager, his eyes were fixed on the woman before him.
The manager paled from being terrified and hurriedly approached Isabella. "Miss, are you alright? What happened?"
Isabella felt like her body was about to explode, but she stubbornly gritted her teeth and got up from the ground with difficulty. "I'm sorry. Let me take a trip to the bathroom, and I'll help clean this up."
Once she finished speaking, she heard a mocking chuckle from the man, which ruthlessly shattered the little bit of resilience she had managed to muster. Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to take a step forward toward the restroom.
But just as she moved, Seth stepped over her and the puddle of coffee and walked past them grimly. As he brushed past her, she caught a whiff of the familiar sandalwood fragrance from him.
It only took a moment for the smell of coffee to overpower the elegant fragrance.
The contrast between how immaculate Seth looked and how bedraggled she was couldn't be starker. She couldn't take another step, so she stood there, waiting for Seth's figure to disappear from her sight.
"Miss, are you trying to make the janitors clean up after you? Say something, at least."
Seeing Isabella wasn't moving, one of the staff glared at her and disdainfully poked her with a finger.
Unexpectedly, Isabella fell straight to the ground.
"Miss!"
That voice sounds so unpleasant. That was the only thought in Isabella's mind before everything went blank.
