Chapter 3 Secret Room

Miracle squirmed, blinked, and narrowed her eyes as the sunlight streamed through the window, touching her face. Miracle briefly massaged her temples when she felt a slight dizziness. Miracle cast her eyes around, gazing at her surroundings. The look on Miracle's face instantly changed as she realized she was in the bridal suite. "I must have overslept last night," Miracle grumbled as she looked down at her body and sighed to find the wedding dress still wrapped around her. Even the remaining makeup was still on her face. Her hair, which she was sure she no longer knew what shape it was in. She remembered falling asleep the night before and hadn't changed her dress or removed her makeup. There was the sound of Miracle's stomach churning. Miracle immediately grunted; of course, she was starving because since last night, she hadn't touched the food served by the waiter. She immediately got up and headed for the dining room. But Miracle's steps stopped when she saw Mateo in the dining room. She wanted to leave, but she couldn't possibly do that. Her stomach was already churning. She could no longer hold back her hunger. With a flat, cold look, Miracle approached, pulled out a chair, and sat next to Mateo. Mateo shot a glance at Miracle, who was now enjoying breakfast. The woman seemed reluctant to look at him. "Miracle," Mateo called Miracle with a cold tone and expressionless face. "What's wrong?" Miracle replied curtly. She refused to look at Mateo. "Today I'm going home at night. If my parents call you, tell them I can't leave my job," Mateo said flatly. It wasn't just Miracle who wasn't looking at him. However, he did not want to look at her either. Even though she was sitting next to him, he only glanced at her and no longer looked at her. "Much better if you don't come home," Miracle replied curtly. The corners of Mateo's lips lifted, forming a smile at Miracle's scathing words. Now Mateo picked up the cup filled with coffee and sipped slowly. "I don't want to go home either. But, you know. We just got married. The media will keep finding out about our lives. I don't want to be in the news," he said coldly. Miracle let out a long breath. Yes, She was married to a man like Mateo De Luca. Her life inevitably had to deal with the paparazzi who secretly intruded on her privacy. For a long time, Miracle had always shied away from the media finding out about her. That's why Miracle studied in Rome and away from his family in Toronto. Born into a prominent family, Miracle was bored. She was tired of being the target of the media. Miracle used to think that after she married, she would be free from the press, wanting to know about her personal life. But that was wrong. The day she replaced her twin sister at the wedding, she became the center of media attention. Even today, Miracle doesn't dare open her social media because many people are talking about her. Not just social media, but Miracle doesn't even turn on her cell phone, avoiding calls from her friends. "Before I left, I reminded you not to look for trouble. You are my wife now. I will never disturb your life. But your last name has changed to my family name. Don't look for trouble that embarrasses me. Because I will never tolerate the slightest problem you create." Mateo said firmly in a warning tone. His brown irises stared intently at Miracle. "You don't need to threaten me. I'm not a stupid woman," Miracle replied coldly and turned her face away, not wanting to look at Mateo, who was engaging her in conversation. "Besides, if I could, I'd choose to drop your surname from my last name," she continued sarcastically. Mateo smiled sarcastically at Miracle's reply. The woman was baring her fangs, fortifying herself to appear less weak. However, Mateo unfortunately didn't care what Miracle said. For Mateo, the woman would remain under his control. "Whatever you say," Mateo replied to Miracle's words coldly. Now, he got up from his seat. Then, he picked up the car keys on the table and continued, "I'm leaving." Miracle did not reply. She was still looking away, unwilling to look at Mateo. As for Mateo, he immediately stepped out of the dining room without looking at Miracle. "Damn man," Miracle cursed irritably when Mateo was gone. "I hope you never have to come home again forever!" Miracle exhaled a rough breath. She steeled herself to ease her irritation at Mateo. It seemed she had to accept this nightmare. Because every day, she had to face Mateo's annoying face. Miracle no longer had an appetite. She put the tableware on the table. Then she got up and chose to walk her feet towards the back garden. The sunny air made Miracle want to calm the thoughts bothering her. She was getting tired; lousy luck had been coming since she came to Milan. As Miracle was about to step into the back garden, her gaze was accidentally drawn to a room at the far end. A room that looked different from any other room in the mansion. Miracle frowned; there shouldn't be a warehouse around here. The warehouse was outside the main room. "What room is that?" muttered Miracle, who seemed to be thinking. Miracle wanted to ignore the room, but her curiosity made her walk closer to the room and open the door knob. But suddenly... "Madam, no," a servant shouted quite loudly as Miracle was about to open the room. Miracle was startled; she turned to the maid, who was yelling at her. "Why are you forbidding me to enter? I just want to see what room this is," she replied coldly and with a sharp gaze. "Madam, sorry." The servant immediately approached Miracle and bowed her head. "Mr. Mateo does not allow a single person into that room. I beg you, Madam, not to go in there. You may visit other places, but not that room, ma'am. Because if Mr. Mateo finds out, he will be very angry," she continued in a terrified tone. Miracle's brow furrowed. She gave a puzzled look to the servant standing before her. "Why is this the only room I'm not allowed to see? What is Mateo hiding in this room?" she asked in a slightly urgent tone for the maid to tell her. "Madam, you'd better get away from this room immediately. There are many CCTV cameras in this room, ma'am. Mr. Mateo could be watching you right now," the maid replied nervously and fearfully. She kept her head down, not daring to look at Miracle. Miracle was silent momentarily; she seemed to be thinking as the maid desperately prevented her from entering this room. 'What is Mateo hiding inside?' Miracle wondered as she stared intently at the door. The look on her face was cold.
