The time had come for her to go home. Her mother still hadn't returned her call and if Ralph was coming, he was late. When she called Ralph, she could hear his ringtone coming toward her. Sticking her head out the door, she watched Ralph hurrying toward her. He had a new car seat and a little breathless, told her it had taken a little longer to pick the right car seat and it was a real pain to set up in the truck. While they figured out how to put Mandy in the car seat, Ralph told Rose that he had been by the house and there was no sign of their mother. He had called her a dozen times but so far, she hadn't responded. Arriving at the house, Ralph carried Mandy and the car seat inside. Rose only managed some part time work during her pregnancy so there was almost nothing in her room for Mandy. She knew she was having a girl so there were a few outfits for her to wear but she couldn't afford even the cheapest crib. Rose noticed that Ralph had a I know something you don't know look on his face and when she took Mandy to her room, she couldn't believe her eyes. In the room was a brand new pink crib. It had a mobile with hanging ponies and beside it was a pink change table and several piles of newborn disposable diapers. With tears in her eyes, Rose set Mandy down and turned to give her little brother a hug. Holding him tightly, she told him that she loved him and had no idea how she could ever repay him for his kindness. Embarrassed, he told his sister that he was doing pretty good with his job, and had enough money to pay for the things she needed. He also told her that if there was anything he hadn't thought of, to let him know and they could pick it up.
