Though its light was faint, the moon had returned, struggling to break through the thick clouds covering the night sky. The fractured pack, the curse still wreaking havoc on the world, and Lila, her face, voice, and absence, haunted him with every breath. The wolves gathered before him, their faces still distrustful, their eyes narrow and cold. He could feel their judgment like a thousand invisible daggers aimed at his chest.
